Actually now it looks like its switching the chapter # but not the disc #. Is there a fix for this?

Is there a disc button that needs to be pressed first? If so, that should be something that you can set up under the content setup for that activity.

I own the kenwood dvd player, and it is not compatible with any remote for that function. Sounds like you got the new Sony DVD player working. How do you like the DVD player? I will probably buy it if it actually works with this remote. Can you simply push the media button, select the movie you want, and the disc skips to that position? Thanks Allan

Tell the remote that the enter function at the end of entering a disc number includes a "display" command.

OK remote works fine, pushing the media keys works great! You just have to remember to add a couple of blank commands before the final display command.

Thanks all fot the help!

BTW -The Sony changer is SWEET! And it's the CX995V (HDMI) I have not the 985 as posted. Essentially the same changer with HDMI.

Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I have the same changer (DVP-CX995V) and the media key won't change my DVDs. Instead it brings up some menu that I have to clear with the display button. How do I insert blank commands so the media button works properly?

Here's what I did for my DVP-CX985 - you may have to adjust the number of 'display' commands you send to the remote.

Go to More options, Change the setup of this DVD(characterization)
Select how you want to leave your DVD player powered (I have mine set to off)

Keep going until you get to the # of discs, should be 400 (of course)
Select "I use number keys to select a disc"
The next page is command to START Disc selection, I have DISPLAY, DIRECTION RIGHT

Next page is "What command do you use to FINISH disc selection"
I have SELECT, DISPLAY.

However, if you find that you need another 'DISPLAY' command sent, select "I SEND MORE COMMANDS" and then select another 'DISPLAY' command.

yaddayaddayadda,
That's some good info. As I'm pretty new with this remote myself, it was helpful in getting me pointed in the right direction for improving my CX985 experience.
Why does it seem that the default remote settings for the DVP985 are so far off? Where does Harmory get the initial settings from? Don't they test them?

I had similar issues with a Sony DA4ES receiver- the codes and programmed buttons just seemed strange or broken in many cases. I got around the problem by lying and claiming this was the next model up, the DA7ES instead. All of those codes seem to work and offer the same functionality I expected for the DA4ES.

I'm using the DVP-CX777ES and it works great, as long as you keep pointing the remote at the player until all the IR commands are sent.

The DVP-CX985V should use the same codes so tell the harmony you have a DVP-CX777ES instead.

The unfortunate thing with the Harmony is that if you get a novice as the 1st person to setup a device and it's not done as it should be then it's too bad. I assume you can't change the standard config of a device if it hasn't been setup properly. You can however take that standard config and adjust it to suit your own needs and getting working properly. But this is a real pain when you are a custom installer and need to keep using a device that someone hasn't setup properly.

Harmony tries to keep the device configs clean and does look at and edit them. If one is fubar and another works better as a starting point, that's probably information they would work with.
