I just bought myself the Logitech Harmony 880 and after spending 5 hours getting the thing programmed correctly (I love how easy the trial web site made it look), I still have a problem with the remote.

When controlling the PC, any buttons that I press will respond except if that same button was the last button pressed. For example, if I press UP and then UP, it won't respond to the second UP. However, if I press UP, LEFT, UP, then it will respond to all 3. When controlling the TV, consecutive button presses work just fine.

Has anybody had this problem and figured out a solution?

thanks in advance,
Dennis

The PC must think it's a key repeat. so it ignores the second one. Not really a fault of the harmony, but if you can't adjust the sensitivity of the PC IR receiver then try adjusting the number of repeats and inter key delay for the PC device on the harmony website.

Go under troubleshooting for the PC device and tell it just what you're seeing. It should tell you to try different numbers of repeats.

Also, try increasing the inter-key delay for the purposes of testing. Try like 500 ms.

If neither of these works, call support - that's what they're there for.

Thanks guys.

I have already tried adjusting the inter-key and repeat settings. So far no luck. I am not sure it's a problem with it thinking the key is a repeat since no amount of waiting between two consecutive key presses will work.

I just tried something. I hit LEFT on the 880, and then I hit LEFT on the MCE remote control. It didn't work. Hitting LEFT on the MCE again then worked.

[Update]
Spoke to support, she tried some changes in config, still not working. So they got me to program some keys as raw for their IR technicians to investigate. I can't believe I'm the only person to have this problem.

Dennis.

Its a little odd, but I think that relearning the commands in RAW mode should fix it if it works with the MCE remote. It might also have something to do with your keyboard settings on the PC (stickykeys or some such) though that's doubtful because the MCE remote works.

DMC's linked thread is the only solution that will work for this "problem" short of creating proper toggling codes for the Harmony.

MCE uses a variant of RC6 which toggles a bit in each command every time a buttono is pressed. This bit is used for debouncing the signal and allows the component (in this case the computer) to tell if it's receiving multiple button presses or just a mildly interrupted long press. A long press would have the same toggle bit throughout while multiple presses would toggle for each press.

The Harmony is obviously not toggling the proper bit, but instead sending the exact same command each time a button is pressed.

Harmony definitely supports other toggle codes such as RC5, so this is something they can probably fix.

But it's faster to make the quick edit to the registry and not have to worry about it for now. This topic pops up in every forum on RC every now and again (sometimes multiple times in one week :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

That did the trick!!!
I would like to propose that the thread detailing the fix be made a sticky.
I originally did a search before posting, but did not find it.

thanks again!

Dennis.

Yet another reason why PC's and Home Theater's don't mix well.

There is no reason they shouldn't, though. Its just reconciling the two different schools of control design.

Hey TwistedMelon,

Can you post the registry tweak to fix this?

Thanks,

Matt

I am having the same problem with a DVD player (Pioneer DV-490V-K) I just purchased.

The player will not register consecutive button pushes . . . I have tried changing all of the timings, learn the codes from the remote . . . nothing works, yet the original remote works fine!
