Has anyone tried to use the 880 with a HD Tivo (HR10-250)?

If so, please share your experience.

Thanks
Mark

Lots of people have used a Harmony with HD Tivos. They work just fine together. (The 880 is no different from a can I use this device perspective than any other Harmony.)

About the only problem people encounter is a small conflict between the IR transmitter on the TIVO and the Harmony (IE, the cable box gets confused). Its usually minor and easily fixed by changing the number of Tivo repeats. Worst case, you just have to block off the IR reciever on the cable box so that it can only see the Tivo transmitter.

I guess if you don't have a cable box and only the Tivo unit that there would be no conflict.

Nope - it just happens when the Tivo and the Harmony are sending commands at the same time.

The HD Tivos are DirecTV so there wouldn't be any external cable box connected. That would be for the normal Series 2 Tivos.

I have the DirecTV HR10-250 and I just bought my 880
last week.

My experience was that after the initial programming
on the webside, everything worked except the TIVO box.
All I did was hit the HELP button on the remote and the
problem was instantly fixed.

It's strange...I could never find the Tivo POWER button on
the Tivo remote. I was surprised when the Harmony remote
allowed me to turn the Tivo unit OFF.

I have programmed in my 16 favorite channels and thus
far the Harmony remote and the Tivo unit are working very
well together.

Tivos have no power button - you can't turn it off, but then again you don't need to.

What do you mean by "allowed you to turn it off"? If it thinks your Tivo has power buttons you must have it configured wrong. Go back into your power settings and tell it you either have no power buttons or it stays on all the time, or both.

I am considering getting a Harmony 880 (do not have one yet). What type of device and model number did you choose to correspond to the HR10-250 when you configured the harmony? My test drive of the Harmony did not show that model number from Hughes.

I don't have my 880 yet, and this will be my first remote from Harmony, so I haven't looked at any configs. However, right at the release of the HR10-250 (the actual model number of the HDTiVo), it was no longer made by Hughes. It is packaged as a DirecTV "brand". Perhaps it's listed under DirecTV in the Harmony database.

i have just got the 880 and have two tivos set up including the hd (both with direct tv) tv is a panasonic ct-36hl42. only problem i have is with the setup on the hd tivo. it will not open the tv in anything but 16/9. the regular tivo opens in 4/3. this is not a remote problem as i have the same problem with my old remote, but any help would be appreciated. have not been able to find out how to have the remote automatically go to 4/3 on startup

Could be wrong (and you experts correct me if I am), but after purchasing the 880, my biggest gripe is that you can't change the order of the activity buttons, and the "Watch TV" (or Tivo) is buried, sometimes even on the 2nd page, depending on your set-up. For this very reason, I'm contemplating the 676 or 680 since they have a dedicated TV hard button on the top. Also, the button configurations seem more "Tivo-like".

1) When people were referring to powering off the HD-Tivo earlier in this thread, what they meant instead was that Harmony was placing the HD-Tivo in "Standbye" mode (see hard button on the front of your HD Tivo). There is no sw ability to power off your Tivo (nor would you want it as you could easily miss a recording you want).

I removed this feature of placing it in standbye mode as I did not see the need for it.

2) Everything so far is working great between the 880 and the HR10-250. I am looking to tweak 3 items if possible. I need to call customer support though as I can't seem to make these changes on my own.

a) The advance key (ie the soft key that ends up being the remapped 30 second skip), is too sluggish. I think I just need to change the timing but I can't seem to find the timing menu for the HR10-250 in the web set up

b) When using the favorite channels, it changes the channels too slowly. This relates to my problem with the advance key I think

c) I want to remap the up arrow and down arrow (the ones right below the OK and down buttons) to be equal to ff and rw so that I don't need to move my hands at all when controlling the Tivo.

I just want to let everyone know that I was able to make all the changes I wanted to listed above.

Now that I have worked with the web site for a couple of tweaks I find it very easy to use. Last night I even reordered the soft keys for each activity to make it more tivo like.

I remapped the up and down arrows to FF and Rew
I remapped Exit to pause
I added the 30 second skip to the lowest right hand corner of the soft keys
I added the exit to the soft keys (I rarely use this button).

I can now access all my highly used Tivo functions with out have to move my fingers much at all.

I know people have complained about the lack of configurability of this unit, but I have got to say that I find it pretty flexible.

I confused by your reply. With the 2 Tivo's in use...for example if you change the settings for video quality on 1 tivo using the 880, the settings on the other tivo try to change. The commands from the 880 are going to BOTH tivo's at the same time. Is there a way to have commands set up for each tivo separately?
