I was wondering if the new dish player would be compatible with Harmony remotes. I looked at the logitech site and noticed that there may be an issue with the frequency the DVR and remote uses? I guess the difference b/w RF and IR? On the dish network site it says that it has "1 UHF and 1 Infrared 4-component universal remote controls"
Any help is greatly appreciated

Won't be a problem. If the device accepts IR signals, the Harmony will control it (minus some IR wireless keyboards, but no need to get into that here!).

1) No need to write/program macros - characterization of devices and Harmony's "smart state technology" allow the Harmony to dynamically send whatever commands are required to get from one activity to another reliably, regardless of whether your devices have discrete or toggle or menu-based power and input commands

2) Ability to customize the mapping of device commands to buttons in 4 different ways - a main "Activity" mapping of buttons from multiple devices participating in the activity, a "Picture" mode that allows one-touch access from within an activity to more commands for your picture device (usually TV), a "Sound" mode that allows one-touch access from within an activity to more commands for your sound device (usually receiver), and a "Device" mode that dedicates the entire remote to control of one device (useful for finding and sending rarely used commands).

3) Easy web-based setup

4) Shared database of IR codes for devices - often there will be commands available for your devices that aren't even on the original remote controls that came with them

5) Comfortable remote control to hold and use - all (except 688) with easily distinguishable buttons, even in the dark

6) Excellent customer support, both by email and by phone, as well as a vibrant and helpful user community here on the forums

...and lots more. Ask any questions you want about these features or any others and you'll get lots of feedback from the folks here.

Activities. With harmony you set up your devices and then add them to activities. The remote figures out how to turn on everything and set them to the right inputs. With other remotes you have to program all the macros to select the right inputs, etc. - harmony does it for you. You can set up other remotes to emulate this with one exception: switching between activities without discrete codes. Harmony knows where it needs to go (for selecting inputs e.g.) and where it left off so it can go from any activity to any other activity seamlessly. Most other remotes don't have the ability to remember the current input and figure out how to get to the right one and if they do, it requires a large amount of custom programming. If this isn't clear let me know and I'll explain it in more detail - it gets complicated but it's an important distinction.

Since your remote config is in their database support can go in and fix it for you while you're on the phone, and their support is top notch.

Well I received the 680, I am trying to configure it. I guess my dish recveiver has PVR/TV function. How do I configure it on the set up wizard? DO I enter the same model number on PVR and satelite. Or just under PVR. Also the Dish Player 942 is not listed from what I can see. I think that the 921 is the same version without multiroom capibility. Any direction is appreciated.

Thanks

Marc

Not sure about the model number. If the 942 isn't listed, then try the 921.

As for setting it up, you need to set it up as a single PVR device.

It's a PVR. You don't watch TV - you watch the PVR which includes both live and recorded TV shows. Actually, they're all recorded - live TV is written to a circular buffer and then read immediatley for playback. That way you can pause it whenever you want. It's one device, so just set it up as a PVR and you'll have all the functionality.

Is there a way to program a button to use a learned code? I have programmed my Harmony to advance and back up the DVR on my Dishnetwork 942. It appears in the code listing in the remote LCD window. I would like to use a button rather than the select wheel to activate this code. The learned code does not show up as an option on the button program interface. Can this be done?

Check again. Learned command(s) are always listed at the bottom of the list (not alphabetically).
