OTAHD: that is why I said third line, I would not want the status tag gone

Greg: agree, I don't want it too crammed. But the space is there and that is why I mentioned it.

PS the header is not bad, and what can be there is limited. But what I can't stand is when people abuse the footer (signature) I have not seen it here, but you go on some sites and some users have a footer that is much bigger then a normal post ( you know what I mean 10 lines of equipment followed by an other 5-10 lines of links and then a line or two of text.) If I want to know what you own I can look at your profile, if the equipment is important to the post then it should be in the post (i.e. I have a ….)

Daniel's requirement for signitures is 200 characters or 3 lines maximum, no HTML. That's why. And a good thing too because I totallly agree.

With my webtv, OTAHD's signature is 7 lines. The standard tagline "advanced member" is two lines. I wouldn't be in favor of anything else under ones name, NO.

Well. it's *supposed* to look like this. A third line wouldn't be a problem for those using a computer.

A feature find on other forums that I would love to have here is the ability to hide signatures.

Hmmmmmmmm.... webtv. I think that adding the place of the person's origin isn't going to make too much of a difference, edmund. It already looks ugly!!! ;-)

I do like having the signature limited. Mine is more than long enough!

And having the place in the tag line, the way Anthony showed with a picture, is not too bad........ again, unless you have webtv, which is already something I couldn't stand unless I had to!

Hmmmmmmmm...... hiding signatures...... I wonder how easy that would be to do since Daniel's site is not a pre-written program like VBulletin. He has encoded the entire site by hand.

Anyway, I'm not putting you down for having webtv, edmund, just being glad I have a computer!

Edmund: Looking at the top of your screen, things look normal... does it enlarge text as you scroll down?

I'm actually somewhat surprised it works at ALL in WebTV... all the simulators I could find (designed to give a webmaster an idea of what things would look like) basically didn't even support stylesheets.

Actually that's a confusing picture. I beleive the top of the screen is my screenshot of the posts, followed by my signiture, which is in the WebTV size.

As OTAHD wrote that is his screen shot of the forum page. In that picture see my post at the bottom of picture, thats how the top banner looks like. and this one:

With my photo links in the thread, OTAHD signature drops to 4 lines, since its stretching out the forum a little.

I could resize the screen to where it looks like how it is on the computer, but only half the forum will be visible at a time, I would have to scan across to see the rest of forum info.

Currently each post is made up of a table three columns wide:

|NAME AREA-------------|-STATS-|-EDIT/REPLY|
|-------------------POST-------------------|
|-------------------POST-------------------|
|SIGNATURE-------------|----REPLY/QUOTE REP|
I see that on Edmund's screen, the SIGNATURE area is made quite small, since it can only occupy as much width as the NAME area. This could be changed, so that the signature can use up some of the "unused" space to the left of REPLY/QUOTE, but I don't know if there would be any negative side effects.

can you go with 4 and merge
|------------------------|----|---|-------------|
|NAME AREA-------------|-STATS-|-EDIT/REPLY |
|---------------------POST---------------------|
|---------------------POST---------------------|
|SIGNATURE------------------|REPLY/QUOTE REP|
...

now that I think about it, it would not help him much, it might get rid of a line, at most two.

A better idea is to keep the format as is but squeeze things a bit.

|NAME AREA-------------|-STATS-|-EDIT/REPLY|
|-------------------POST-------------------|
|-------------------POST-------------------|
|SIGNATURE---------------------|REPLY/QUOTE|

it is relatively obvious that quote =quote and reply, so why not shorten it to

[Reply | Quote] and just use one column for it, that should more then half the # of lines for him
