I saw an ad on TV today that purported to highlight power savings by turning off lights - man, realising error, runs back up 20 floors to turn off a standard 60W (?) desk lamp. Unfortunately, to me at least, the message was rather lost by his initially travelling down (by himself) in an elevator - and would have returned the same way had not some granny beaten him to the car.

Alas I haven't (as of yet) been able to pin down the power consumption of a 6 - 8 person lift, but I would imagine it to be a little more than a 60W desk lamp. Perhaps not the best thought through advertisement.

I've not seen the ad but, the only reference I know states "A heavily used (500,000 starts/yr) non-regenerative elevator in a high-rise commercial building would use about 15,000kWh/yr (Enermodal 2004)"

Not sure if my maths is right but I think that equates to about 1.7kW

If so for overnight a complete waste of energy going back. Leave the lamp running. If Anthony is right about the month then it would be worthwhile.

After typing all that...I think I need to get a life...this is the Intermission forum after all!

I knew this was a mistake; my grip on reality's not too good at the best of times. Glitz, in "The Ultimate Foe"

I don't know Damik, but I DO know that djy's mind NEVER rests!

And, if we want to let our minds wander a bit (as was said above, this IS the intermission forum), we can only wonder if he might have been hit by a car if he hadn't have gone back up and turned out the light!

It could happen! :-?

I will admit that I do have some rather weird dreams from time to time.

Oi!

It COULD work! I mean, how much more bizarre could it get in here?

It would be kind of fun if people were actually creative and didn't just post garbage.

"What if........" YOU started the new thread, dj?

If not, I'm going to start one and run with it!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHEN YOU SAY
WE'VE CHANGED OUR WAYS?
SAY WE'RE JUST TOO POLITICAL,
OR WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TO SAY.
THE ONES WHO CRITICIZE OUR REASONS,
ALWAYS SEEM TO DISAGREE.
NO MATTER WHAT WE DO,
IT'S THEM WE JUST CAN'T SEEM TO PLEASE.
(CHORUS)
FORGOT THE THINGS WE'VE SAID,
WE'RE ONLY CLONES.
NOT COOL ENOUGH TO MAKE IT ON OUR OWN.
JUDGED BY THE ELITIST CHOSEN FEW.
THEIR LABELS AREN'T FOR ME,
ARE THEY FOR YOU?
YOU SAY SOME YEARS AGO OUR SONGS WERE FINE.
AND OUR DEBUT EP WAS JUST DIVINE,
BUT NOW A SHADOW HAUNTS US THROUGH AND THROUGH
AND SONGS WE WROTE BEFORE YOU NEVER KNEW
(REPEAT CHORUS)
