Then most likely, you're connecting using a PPPoE protocol. (Trust me there - I used to support ADSL infrastructure for SBC here in the states.) IF it's possible with that USB modem, go into your network connections and choose a new network connection.

  • Click next at the first page of the wizard

  • Choose connect to the internet and click next

  • Choose setup connection manually

  • Choose Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password

  • Type in what you want the connection called for reference

  • Enter user name and password and uncheck the bottom check box indicating it's the default connection

  • finish the wizard

Once that's done, disconnect from the internet how you connect now and connect using the broadband connection you just created. If you can connect, use ICS on that connection and make it your default internet connection. If you cannot do that and are limited to the connection software provided by your ISP, I don't know if I'll be able to help you accomplish what you'd like.

I hope this helps. :)

UPDATE

I now have a wireless network consisting of

a Linksys WAG 354G ADSL Wireless Gateway.
[Link: argos.co.uk]

And a WUSB54G USB network adaptor.

[Link: linksys.com]

£49.98 for BOTH!! seemed too good to pass up

It took less than two hours to set up( which is good for me!)

My Son is bought this £899. Mac yesterday
[Link: store.apple.com]

It has built in airport extreme and it took me a while of googling to figure out that i had to put 0x infront of the WEP password to get it to work.

It's so good when everything works! we were all working away and it seemed just as fast as my one pc connected to my 8.1Mbps connection.

now my son is getting a PSP so that will soon be on my network and i have loads of spare pc bits so i'm thinking of building a Linux PC for my shed!

Thanks for everyones help it really is appreciated.

Bob.
