Hi! PLEASE email me folks if you can help or suggest a remote for me. Im not a techie and will never be (and dont even know how to use this forum/blog or whatever it is) Even the Clicker Picker here is WAY over my head.
All I really need to do is find (ideally the least expensive) universal remote that that i can program to run a home theatre in the least confusing way for my elderly mom. I am not familiar with the vocabulary here so I cannot tell which if any will support the 300 disc CD player whose remote displays the song titles etc. Other than that, i imagine my needs are fairly basic in that all i need to do is line up all her system components to be on and in correct mode for TV, DVD, Digital Cable etc. so mom doesnt hafta wonder why theres picture but no sound etc, etc.
Also, my cable remote has a Guide button which is used to see whats on tv and record to the DVR from which i would of course need as well.
I cannot even figure out iif the TV Guide option is the same thing or another feature I would want or need.
Lastly, I think it would be helpful to have a feature Ive seen on the site whereby unused or unwanted functions/ components are not even seen on the screen which would also simplify things for her (AND ME lol)
Gratefully,
Mike

I'd be grateful too for a simple reply, if I were you. Sometimes you have to put in a little homework. Good luck!

You are 100% correct. Hire a local dealer to program for you. You'll give yourself an anurism trying. Oh, by the way. does your VCR flash 12:00 all day long? They might be able to fix that too.

Happy New Year!

Same to you. Good luck!!

And a happy new year to you mike,
This forum is a trap for new posters.
You fell into it,dont feel bad.
The intermission forum is for anything but remotes.

But seriously if you want least effort most gain hire a pro to help.
If your tight fisted and wont part with the cash well i'm sorry but you have to work a bit harder and not expect a free lunch.

if you post your question in the home theatre forum ,you will get help but its also about what you put in to it you will get back.

Happy new year Bob

thank you very much bob
as a newbie here, i appreciate your helpfulness
trust me tho, its not about being tight-fisted, its about being BROKE
And, to be perfectly frank, even if i was loaded I really couldnt justify hiring someone to suggest a remote control when theres people starving in the world.
..a total home theatre system or new computer, maybe, just cuz im so over my head, but even these things i end up doing myself too and they really do give me an aneuryism. LOL Its just not where my smarts or interests and abilities are.
Especially when what i need doesnt seem all that intricate (to me anyway, maybe im assuming incorrectly)
I dont know why the home theatre forum wasnt obvious to me. I did see that this was not the appropriate forum but nothing else looked like a catchall area to me as i saw Home Theatre as more of a global area since remotes have their own distinctly separate section.
Will definitely give it a try before I throw my hands up and take whatever Circuit City suggests.
Much Aloha

As I rise up from the dead, I proclaim, "Jesus H CHrist, Don't do that!"

If you want to spend some time, look for the MX-850.

HAHAHA
i appreciate that, oex
$200s the least i see it for and even thats too rich for my blood.
Would you or anyone know if the $200 Sony I occasionally see on sale for $99 is pure garbage or even has the features i want?
I know its not the best reviewed on other sites but thats my reality reality right now.
Discerning ears and eyes and the ol beer budget. You might be surprised what Ive been able to put together on a shoestring tho.
Theres remotes in here that cost almost as much as my entire surround system! LOL
thx folks
Mike

Why not call Mike at surfremote.com or Damon at proremotes.com. Tell them you've been looking around remote central and need some help. Maybe even ask for 'open box specials' that they have from time to time. I'm sure they can help.
