Not being into sports or camping or the like, I'm curious as to what the big deal is about Bass Pro shops. I know they're big and everything, but it seems like it's a huge status symbol for a city to have one.
To wit: for well over a year, the Buffalo news stations have been going on and on (and on and on) about their possible Bass Pro store. "Do we have it" "we might have it" "things are being planned" "hopefully by 2007" "a spokesman from Bass Pro says..." "the mayor is optimistic".
It seems to be mentioned at least once every other week as a headline story, and for some weeks it's the top story every day (even though there is still nothing concrete).
So, what's the big deal?

advertisement :) no idea, never heard of bass pro before. On the other hand if you go on their site [Link: basspro.com] you see the future Buffalo store is on the map, so I would guess it is a little more then a maybe (unless problems happened later)

You guys need to get out a little more. Bass Pro is really cool. ITs a store that has EVERYTHING for the outdoorsman. You could take a 1 day vacation with the family to one. The have indoor fishtanks where they demo the gear. They carry every firearm possible. Bass Pr equates to CEDIA or EHX for the outdoorsman.
Get it now??

You can get this at Bass! I think that some on this forum would figure out a way to control it remotely. I can see the thread... "Does anybody know the discreet for Sweet Home Alabama?" [Link: basspro.com]

There's talk here in Memphis that our existing Bass Pro Shop which is in an old Wal-Mart may be moving to the Pyramid in Memphis. ( ) This would be big news since this relatively new building (~10 yrs) which still hasn't been paid for was the home of U of M basketball and was built to house a pro B-ball team. Of course, the fact that it wasn't brand spanking new meant that there was no way it would be good enough for the Memphis Grizzlies so we had to spend an additional $250 mil on another new arena. The Pyramid now sits empty and would be a good use for a Bass Pro shop but I'm thinking it would dwarf their existing building in Springfield, MO which is freaking H U G E!!! [Link: basspro.com]
