Hey fellas. I have been on this site alot latley, and really value alot of your opinions. I have been in the industry for close to 10 years, and like alot of you, have realized the addiction to our industry. I am looking forward to Cedia this year, and would like to take the Cedia Designer Certification course. I have read through the list of info describing the test, and while not Cad, or HVAC proficient, everthing else looks familiar. Would you guys have any suggestions for a fellow looking to further his career, and education? Thanks in advance for your help.

You used to have to be certified Installer Level I before you could take the Designer test. I don't know if that's still the case.

Nope.
Installer I is only a pre-requisite for Installer II.
I learned that Designer I will be a pre-requisite for the new Home Theater Designer that may or may not be available to take at the '05 Expo.
Something else I learned just today is that the board are considering removing the pre-exam review courses for ALL of the tests. This would make them more of a true measure of acquired knowledge in addition to the study & comprehension of the recommended reading materials.

I looked through the Cedia media guide and did not see a review course for the Designer Exam. I talked with Holly, and Cedia headquarters, and she confirmed there where no pre-requisites for the exam other than a suggested 5 years in the industry. I have field experience, but the engineering portion is what I would worry about.

After extensive research at THX.com I've concluded that whilst the equipment itself dosen't require certification, it would be beneficial if the operater is; or at the very least is supervised by a technician that is.
