why " Canadian "

on the other hand does an HD 4:3 spec even exist? I thought HD was 16:9, and the 4:3 sets were just HD compatible.

as for Enquirer, my guess it is you making fun of the other guy

He's from Canada posting questions on a UK forum where we have totally different equipment and any recommendation from us in the UK would be useless anyway.

well i think this bit gave it to me ....but hey i'm no Sherlock Holmes

"I know the majority of folks on these forums are from the UK so I'd just like to remind anyone who might be reading this, that I am situated in Canada and therefore am looking for hardware that is available and compatible with our NTSC system and accepted voltage,"

but hey i'm no Sherlock Holmes

Seriously i cant imagine what he wants existing (It Doesnt in the UK)
"I just want a high-res, high quality set with defined colors and progressive scan capabilities.

It NEEDS to be a wall-mounted display and I would like something that is HDTV compliant with a built-in tuner.
I'm having MUCH difficulty finding anything available in a 4:3 Fullscreen aspect ratio.-----
Again, I also need something HDTV compliant and that offers pro scan conversion as well.------
The reason I want a 4:3 monitor, is that it will mainly be used for watching television shows on DVD which are framed for 4:3.---
ALSO - It NEEDS to have built-in stereo speakers!
I'm looking approx. 36".

So he wants the latest technology HDTV flat screen but in a 4:3 ratio.
Is one available in Canada?

Correct, you're no Sherlock Holmes . . . no Sherlock Holmes. Goodness me . . . me . . . me. There's an echo . . . echo, in here . . . here. Hang on . . . on whilst I shut . . . shut the door . . . door . . . door . . . door. Ah, that's better.

Anyway, I don't mean to offend, but you obviously didn't detect the sibilants in his (yes, don’t be fooled, this is definitely a male we’re talking about) voice that clearly indicate he's telling porky pies. Furthermore, his colonial twang almost certainly emanates from south of the US/Canadian border. However, that doesn't mean to say he is actually living in the USA, or is indeed residing on the American continent.

My considered belief is that he's an ex-pat American, living in Lichtenstein; aged between 36 and 37; is 6' 1" tall; has blue eyes; short brown hair (going slightly grey); is a little overweight; and walks with a slight limp (from an injury sustained rescuing a small child from the path of a runaway car whilst on holiday in San Francisco in 1997). He prefers to wear blue Levi jeans, but is having to make do with black; is quite partial to the odd bottle of Merlot and drinks far too much coffee. Finally, he is presently unattached (divorced twice), has no dependents and whilst seemingly a lonely person he is content in the company of his two Siberian Hamsters; Southern and Comfort.

As for the TV he is after, I would suggest he obtain a 42” HD capable widescreen plasma (the height being roughly the size of a 36” 4x3). Then, in best Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen tradition, have a sheet of 10mm (mustn’t be too thick) MDF laser cut into the shape of a 36” 4x3. Attach to plasma (e.g. PVA glue and 2" no.8 Pozidriv countersunk screws) then trompe l’œil the image of tv cabinet on to the MDF.

Bob’s your uncle, a 4x3 hi def plasma.

Bob, it was just a joke, not to mention that I wanted to disassociate myself and my city from him. To be honest, if I see Montreal in someone' s tag I would automatically assume he is from this area. Also until the summer of 1992 when Montreal had its 350'th B-day with many celebrations and parties I did not know there were other areas called Montreal out there. But one of the activities had something to do with the other Montreals out there. For some reason I thought one of them was in Italy and thought a link between MarcoBiscotti and that Montreal would be fun (but could not find it on mapquest and went with other more logical countries to look through)

As to your other question, like I said, doesn't a set need to be 16:9 to be HDTV, and aren't sets that are 4:3 at most HDTV ready?(i.e. can accept and do justice to an HD pic by letterboxing or stretching)
