How many colours are they and how many can the eye see?

This site [Link: colormatters.com]
says The human eye can see 7,000,000 colors others say four and all the mixes in between.

The reason i ask is the new Hitachi plasma info says

In addition, Hitachi Plasma TVs boast 68.6 billion colours thanks to the 12-bit
Advanced Digital Colour Management which reproduces 4093 colour
graduations

68.6 BILLION!!! no wonder i have trouble picking paint in my local DIY store

Talk to the other half. Apparently it is a fact that women can see more hues than men.

No, it was blue; though the wife thought it was green.

Colors amaze me.

I stripped my Harely this winter, gave it a base coat of black, a coat of silver, and a top coat of deep purple, folowed by several coats of clear.

I'm still not sure what color it is!

In bright sunlight it apears to be chrome with a purple tint.

At night it's black with a purple tint.

On a cloudy day, the color seems to shift, depending on the angle. Shifting between black, purple, and chrome!

Confusing, but cool!

The paint job came out great! But I think I'll stick to being a CI ! Cleaning the paint gun between colors was a pain! :-)

The coolest thing about color is how complex the perception is. Projected color isn't as special as reflected color is...... absorbing one wavelength and releasing others and then our brains have to take that and turn it into a flavor! MAN! Of course we can process the whole dern thang at the speed of light in super duper hi-def-smell-o-rama. That's some crazy stuff. And to think that there are so many other creatures see things entirely different....................well it's true! I vote for 4 infinitely blended shades of colors. Why limit yourself.
