I'm new to the forum but i'm trying to get some info on video editing. Does anyone know what the drawbacks are for not using a dv recorder / player as an interface to your pc for editing? Is it possible to just transfer and edit from a camcorder to the pc or do you lose quality? I just don't have it in my budget to drop $1000 into a cheap dv player when i can just use the camcorder. My buddy has an entry level professional camera that uses DV tapes and he wants them edited, so i just want to know if i can run them through my camcorder instesd of purchasing a player..... any help would be great!!

If you have a dv camcorder and a firewire card built into your PC then all you need to do is hook up a firewire cable and you're ready to go. If you would also like the capability to capture older analog (VHS/S-Video) footage to your machine then check out the ADS API555 with Adobe Premiere Elements software at [Link: videoguys.com]

If you have any more questions feel free to call me - Jim - at 800-323-2325 x110... selling video editing gear is my day job ;-)
