I have a client with a Hitachi 42HDF52 Plasma. Anyone have discrete IR codes for this panel?
I've tried all the ones in the files section, no luck.

Me too. Looking for a three digit code for the Radio Shack remote for this TV, specifically for Power Off.

Found this, but I'm not certain if it will work. [Link: hitachi.us]This model TV doesn't seem to have common video input names (i.e. Video1, Video2, Video3, etc). The setup is odd, I have to press "PC" twice to get to the DVI input and "VIDEO" twice to get to S-Video. I am hoping there are codes I can program into my Harmony remote which will jump directly as sending the PC or VIDEO buttons more than once is prone to jumping to the wrong input.

I have all of the discrete codes in a RS-232 format, if you can convert them I will gladly supply them for you. If there is anyone else out there that can convert them to Pronto hex may I please ask for your assistance in doing this?

I am having the exact same problem with the input problem and a Harmony remote. You have to hit "PC" twice to get to DVI input. The code that is sent is something like "InputAB" for the [PC] button and "TvVideo" for the [Video] button within the Harmonyremote setup. I have the Hitachi 42HDF52 as well. Thanks for any help in advance!

--Edit-- Hitachi customer/service support is a COMPLETE JOKE! They do not have the codes (42HDF52), have no idea of if they will ever have them, in fact 99% of the people I have spoken with at Hitachi don't even know what discrete codes are. I am going to go do some exchanging for another brand, as I bought this model because they said the codes were there for "convenience" on their web page (and color brochure from Hitachi) lol, I feel so convenienced...NOT! :) They(Hitachi) literally have no person/supervisor they can call over in engineering to get the codes, which I just cannot fathom!
**HItachi probably outsourced one of those 3rd party telemarketing firms to handle the Hitachi tech support phones, because they are completely out of the loop when it comes to their own product support! That was my one and ONLY dealing with Hitachi, I hope Sony is a bit better!
--end--
Ok, I have contacted Hitachi (as I have only had my new Plasma TV for 4 days now, and can return it! lol) and mentioned to them that their "discrete" codes listed on the Hitachi website are NOT correct for model [HITACHI 42HDF52]. We need them to properly program these programmable remotes (My HARMONY 676 in particular!), so I hope someone at Hitachi comes through (but am NOT feeling too confident) as the person I was speaking to did not know what "discrete codes" were. Heck, I didn't either 4 days ago! :) When and IF I get them, I will post them here. If I don't get 'em, I will return it and get a plasma TV that has CORRECT discrete codes for it! :) We shall see.... This all in one remote is just too cool for it to NOT work correctly!

If you have a harmony, why are discretes so important to you? The smart state technology makes discretes not really needed. Discretes are nicer, but your remote can handle it. As I have mentioned above, I did call tech support and I have the codes in RS-232 format, I am now converting them. Hopefully I will have time to finish them and test them next month.

We carry the high end plasmas and lcd's, and the discretes are in the orignal remote. Look in your manual and see if it says anything about how to get them out. I dont know if what I have will work on your model or not. The discretes I have are power on power off all inputs day night all aspect modes my 2 cb1

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time! |

Ok for an update, NOW Hitachi has updated their website to say the 42HDF52 does NOT have discrete codes, and will NEVER have them available. It is on the Hitachi official website, and they listed about 5-6 other sets that will also never have discrete codes available. Unfortunately I bought my Plasma 42HDF52 BEFORE they updated their site to correctly reflect what is available, but fortunately was under the 30-day grace period that I could return the set...and I DID RETURN IT.
You asked why discrete codes are important if you have a Harmony with "smart state tech"? Well, they are EXTREMELY important if you need to switch between inputs in a timely fashion, as the Harmony (which I still do like), will basically keep sending "button pushes" to the ir on the set which means you have to hold the remote up to the set until you arm wants to fall off! Discrete codes would allow me to go to a SPECIFIC input anytime I want in a reasonable amount of time (thus my arm not falling off from holding it up for 22.5 seconds!) This particular Hitachi Plasma has THREE Diff input buttons on the remote, and several inputs on some of each (PC, VIDEO, DTV), that means when switching between any of those inputs you have to cycle through all available inputs to get you to where you want to be! Think about the "Smart State Tech" there! Discrete codes ARE needed for this Hitachi Plasma set, they will never be available according to Hitachi, and it is a shame as I did see some good in it, but there was not enough GOOD to outweigh the BAD. I have too many devices to want to sit there for 18 secs when switching to A input and then 19.2 secs to switch to B and C inputs.
