Try code 078 in the database of your mx-800, there are discrete ON & OFF commands on the second page.

Codeset 078 contains most of the same codes as codeset 480 which is the one linked for the VSX-D914. 078 is linked to a number of receivers that are code-compatible with your model. Unfortunately, [edit to correct typo] "480" lacks the discrete power commands.

No, it doesn't, they're there on second page of the LCD keys. It worked for two of us, but we're just lying right, right.

Sorry, I made a typo. :) I meant they don't exist on 480. Obviously they exist on 078 - that's the whole subject. Oops.
