Thinking of picking up an SR7500 or 8500 but I need to know if they have discrete codes first. Will probably be using this with a URC MX-500 remote.

Thanks!

Yes both devices have discrete codes and they are easy to get as well

Do You have a specific link or maybe a list of the availabe discrete codes for Marantz SR7500.??
I have been looking for these but so far I have found very little.
I have downloaded the Excel sheet from Marantz, but it is jibberish to me.
For instance the 7.1 input On is shown as "71C:2" and I don't know what to do with this info.

If I saw more of it, I could be more confident in my guess of what it means. Do you have the URL where you downloaded that Excel sheet?

Marantz uses RC5x protocol for discrete codes. The 71C:2 is specifying the exact RC5x signal.

In ProntoEdit, you can enter an RC5x signal given the "system", "Command" and "Data" values in decimal.

71C:2 clearly mean that the data value is 2. It's less clear what the system and command parts are. Best guess, the system is 7 and the command is 28 (because 1C hex is 28 decimal). But among my many downloads of CCF files there aren't any in which a Marantz device uses system 7, so that reduces my confidence in my guess at what 71C means.

Anyway, you're not using ProntoEdit because your remote isn't a Pronto. If the software you are using supports Pronto Hex but doesn't have special support for RC5x protocol, you can use my MakeHex program to generate Pronto Hex. For MakeHex you need to put the value of system.command as a device (so if I'm guessing the meaning of 71C right, device=7.28)

Just to touch on (drive home) what John first said, any time you reference an external file, please post a link to where that file may be obtained if it hasn't already been done earlier in the thread.

I haven't seen this file on the Marantz.com site - in fact (unfortunately) the only files I've found with IR codes on their site have been ccf/pcf config files for their remotes (these are a PITA and aren't very portable).

All Marantz product have discrete codes for everything and this is true for as long as I can recall. They are included in some Marantz remote controls like the RC-1400, but the best source is the Pronto siblings Marantz remotes, currently the RC-5400 and RC-9500 and their programing software. The software is available for download at Marantz web site (www.marantz.com) and includes the default configuration which has the codes for most recent and current models, sometimes learned sometimes in RC5x format. All similar models use the same codes if the function is available. Currently it doesn't include the SR-8500 but the SR-8400 is functionally equivalent. Elsewhere in this forum are the instructions to load this configuration files on the Pronto NG. You could either find a friend or Marantz/Philips dealer willing to help you loading this configuration file into the corresponding remote and then teach the code to your remote, or maybe find a way of transfering the code from the Marantz software to the software of you remote.

Man, I love the looks of that SR9600...

My SR-18EX is starting to feel a little behind the times! :-)
