I don't know how this happened, it flew under my radar until I had to go and program the remote (that they needed me to program it should have been my first clue). I showed up at the house monday to find a Panasonic plasma, Outlaw pre/pro and amp, Toshiba single DVD, Mitsubishi VCR, Sony TiVo and two escients (DVD-M100,E2-400). The only thing we sold him was the Escient. Two of us spent the entire day d*cking around with the programming/wiring to get it working. Hope he saved a lot of money on that stuff, because we're still not done programming, and he's paying T&M.

When I hear a customer say "oh, I saw this great deal at Store X", I'll immediatley tell them that I can't guarantee that anything that they buy outside of what was specified for the job will work correctly. Exactly! I've been doing Pioneers for years. I had no idea they were just making a worthless cheap knockoff waste of programming time toad for Costco (at least the 42"). Maybe now we can make some $ on some plasmas again.

With my Pioneer PDP-4214HD from Costco, 204 works as a remote on; I haven't found a remote off yet.

204 on an MX-850?? How about inputs? That's the real kicker.
Pioneer tech support told me on three seperate calls there were no discretes at all.

Then at the end of the day, I'd reflect upon all of the time and energy that I spent in trying to solve a problem that not only didn't I create, but someone else made the money on. Oh but he did creat the problem when he said : go out and buy a Pioneer plasma at costco. These are Commercial products with no Shielding, prossesing, or descrete commands. They are refered to as Digital Signnage. Everything in the home causes interference on these things. I recently picked up a customer that had spent a ton of money from another company who sold them Commercial displays. I was able to set one side by side with a Vidikron with the same signal and a Retarded Blind Baboon could see the difference in quality and noise on the Commercial display. It costs half the price for a reason.

I'm resurrecting this post 'cause of the new 50" model at Costco:
PDP 50A5HD
Does this have discretes?
Pioneer has not posted on their site concerning this one yet

You can use the ccf file for the PDP-5050HD that is on the Pioneer website. Of course, there are a few less inputs (no i.LINK or PC). No discretes for screen size are available. Universal has the PDP50A5 listed in their database but it looks like they just copied the 5050's codes; no big deal as they are the same. John

I'd maliciously tell the customer to call the local Costco and ask for the discretes.
Then at the end of the day, I'd reflect upon all of the time and energy that I spent in trying to solve a problem that not only didn't I create, but someone else made the money on.
Like most of you, I devote a heck of a lot of time in researching components and establishing good relationships with manufacturers so that I may be able to provided products with good track records and be able find help when I'm in my time of need. This (painstaiking and unbillable time) is then wrapped up and packaged into our hourly rate and into the pricing of our goods.
When I hear a customer say "oh, I saw this great deal at Store X", I'll immediatley tell them that I can't guarantee that anything that they buy outside of what was specified for the job will work correctly. WORD! Feel the same way.

Don't send your clients to Costco for electronics and then tell them you will integrate that product. Unless you like losing money of course...
I did a project where I supplied several Pioneer's, all of which worked just fine. Client supplied one 50" he picked up from Costco.. I tried several codes with no luck, gave him a toggle button on the remote for that display.

There are no discrete codes or RS-232 for those models. Don't ask cause no one can tell. That was an ill-fated attempt at an inexpensive "cash & carry" model for Costco. Who knew that these would be integrated with new remotes and systems? Actually everybody but the product planners. The last of these models (PDP4216 / 5016) in 2006 were sold to Tweeter. Later runs of these 2 models did have discrete On & Off after we pleaded for them. Sorry to see that after 3 - 8 years they still cause problems. Never again!

OK, so the client buys display from Costco because it's cheaper. How much time and money have they now spent trying to get this to work? Oh and when it fails, what other knock off display are they going to exchange it for that they will now have to spend money getting integrated?
So where is the savings on a deal like this?
