Any of you guys used these or had any problems. I have 4 in the field and have nothing but problems with them. Any one else having issues? My one in the field the longest is about 9 months. The wired in wall clients need to be rebooted weekly (On 3 of the jobs. The 4th just got installed Friday.). The clients and server are on their own network WITHOUT internet access and still have problems. Most times rebooting the client fixes the problem but I have had to, on 3 occassions completely reset the server and had to reprogram in the FM stations, rename clients, config the clients, yada, yada, yada.

I would love to hear if any others are having problems.

Only done one system, and haven't had any problems yet (knock, knock). The guy is out of town more than in, but he isn't shy about calling, either...

I will say that when I came back from that first install, I told everybody at the shop that I would send them out on their own installs the next time... Haven't seen one come by since.

The theory is/was cool, but I'll stay away from first gen convergence products...

My question to those of you having trouble is; Does you have the latest firmware? Our Yamaha rep updates us every once in a while and it usaully helps to fix any problems we are having.

My only gripe is this: I can't back up the hard drive. I can't sell it. Hard drives have a shelf life (2-3 years). When it goes it's a do-over. So who's going to reburn all that music?

Now, if there's a way to back it up, tell me. Our Yam rep told us nope on numerous occasions.
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

Steve,
When I spoke with the Yamaha reps, I was advised that they can back it up.. In fact, they had a software package to do so.. Check with Doc at sound-tech marketing. Shoot me an email if you need his info.
I'll let you know tomorrow..

They have a utility that copies the drive. You can buy a new drive, say 300g, and burn to that one and keep the old one for a spare

Does anyone have the Back-up Utility disk. I'd like to give this a try as we've been getting more than a few inquiries about MusicCast upgrades... Thanks!

EXACTLY.

This theory is the one to work from. Remove the word "convergence," and just don't work on first generation products, and most of this heartache and heartburn will be over.

My son (damn kids, you know) has backed up and expanded a customer's old supposedly non-working TiVo. Whaddaya bet TiVo says that is impossible?

It's a hard drive, right? Then it can be backed up. You might have to enlist an 18-year old, and you might have to remove the drive and slap it into a computer to do the backup, but IT CAN be done.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

It can be easily done. Call your rep and ask for a copy of the CD to do it. I'll look and see if I can find it in my mess.

I guess I am a newbie, but only to this site. I've been able to copy TiVo disks, but was unable to figure out Yamaha's format for the partition - I could copy the data to a new larger drive, but the partition was still 80GB. So instead, I procured the Yamaha HDD Backup and Software Upgrade disks (available only to authorized service centers) and have successfully backed-up, increased hard drive size and updated the software for a couple of people. Here's a crazy stat: a 500Gb drive can hold 1.2 million hours of MP3 music!!. Anyway, I highly suggest the software upgrade as there are multiple changes to improve communication with the remotes.

Feel free to contact me if you need a hard drive backup (80Gb -> 80GB), existing music data copied to a new, larger drive (80GB - > 160, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500), or a larger drive preformatted for use in your unit. I've been following Yamaha's specification for drives - only top quality, quiet, long warranty, but not cheap. I am willing to try cheaper ones at your request. Watch for an ad in the Market Section, or search eBay for my live or completed auctions (key words - HDD Musiccast).

Hello
I'm not sure if this post is truly that old but I have the same problem. I have to reset my musicast devices all the time because there is a problem with the connection. All I can do with the app is turn them on And off!!

Any suggestions?

Wow,
The MusicCast system talked about in this thread, is a product from over 10+years ago. It has been gone for a very long time.
Do you still have one of these ancient systems? Is it still working?

If you are talking about the new MusicCast system Yamaha just introduced last year, that is an entirely different product.

Wondered why Yamaha rep kept pimping a antique, lol.
