My ROKU updated spontaneity today. The screen layout is different. There was a cute announcement stating that they had approved things for me. I’m not so sure about “improvement” because I liked the old scheme better. It seems like this new scheme makes it easier for them to push content on me. I haven’t yet heard from any customers.

If you go to the Home Screen settings, you can “hide” most of the new ‘features’.

Edited minor typo.

You are late to the party. They have been announcing this change all year.
And for the last several months, any new Roku's you installed would have had the new home screen by default.

To catch you up on Roku news. Fox bought Roku last month. What this is going to mean for Roku is yet unknown. But everyone agrees, they don't think it's good.

And yes, the new home screen is all about pushing ads. It is noticeably worse than the old home screen we have had for a decade. But as the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, fix it anyway".
And to elaborate on this even more = They were getting pushed a lot by the younger generations, that their home screen looked so dated. This is why we can't have nice things - everyone* under 30 with their mental issues & ADHD just can't be happy with perfection. They are not happy unless something is screwed up and broken.

* I know not everyone but damned if it doesn't seem like the majority of them.

I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Interesting. About a month ago I installed two newly purchased Ultra’s and didn’t notice a significant change. They did change their networking support and I had to react to that. (I’m using IP control.) It was my home unit that updated and freaked me out because I’m expecting customer contact.

Weird. You should have gotten the new home menu on those you did last month.
There was an option to switch back to the original home menu at that time.

Now I believe no one has a choice but to use the new home menu.

I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

My daily used Roku which is Roku Streambar Pro didn't get the new Home screen until a couple of days ago. No other Roku in the house has gotten it yet which includes two Ultras 4800 and 4850.

I know this thread is about Roku, but I'll extend the bitch session to Samsung and Sony.  Now we can't even finish set up a TV with a fkng Google or Samsung account.  Samsung has been this way for a while but now Sony.

I don't really use LG, are they the same?

The level of tracking and ad face slapping is insanity.

I sell only Sony and I never sign in to a Google account.  I also don’t use any of the TV’s built in apps as all my clients use Apple TV.  I stop and disable as much as I can.  The TV effectively becomes a dumb monitor.

I noticed the new home screen, nice to have smaller tiles. However, some things cannot be disabled, the frequent promotions can be whack-a-moled away. And if you search for secret menus you can have the ad on right side of screen disappear with some persistence.

These 2 are phoning home often on my home network and are blocked:
scribe.logs.roku.com (adblock turned on in unifi)
samples.voice.cti.roku.com
display.ravm.tv (infrequent)

My own rules:
samples.voice.cti.roku.com
img.roku.com
display.ravm.tv
samples.voice.cti.roku.com
customer-feedbacks.web.roku.com
amoeba-plus.web.roku.com
p.ads.roku.com
digdug-g2.logs.roku.com

I won't start about Samsung and their analytics....

So you don't even update the TV's?  The new Sony's don't seem to let you even do that without signing in.

Not sure about the new 2026 models as I haven’t put one in yet, but you don’t need to sign in to anything on the previous ones.

First thing I do with a new TV is update firmware, disable / delete everything I can, then do all of the normal setup things like disabling unused inputs, etc.  Lastly I go into the installer menu to change any CI features.
