Hey guys is there a better way of mounting a small cable box to the back of a TV. I've been using industrial velcro but it often falls off.

Why does it come off? Because the Velcro releases or because the Velcro separates from the cable box or TV?

I swear some TVs have oil coatings… I have one where I mounted bias lights, and even industrial strength 3M mounting material eventually falls off. After like 6-12 months, which is the annoying part.

I typically will use alcohol to clean the surface before applying self adhesive.

I've used something similar to this before: [Link: tinyurl.com] In a pinch, I've even used these: [Link: tinyurl.com] They both provide a solid base that's bolted with the mount so it won't move. At that point, velcro straps wrapped around the device will hold, and there are no worries about the glue losing its grip over time.

Something is not soluble. Since the surface is probably hidden, you could use a more aggressive solvent that will etch the surface.

These are the way; the device is spaced away from the TV so it won't use the TV as a heatsink, and you can use non-adhesive means of fastening it. |

I think that would be due to the type of plastic- polystyrene is easy, (poly)urethanes, polypropylene and others, not so much. Some plastics won't etch easily, especially polypropylene, which has been used for Lead/acid battery cases for decades. Acetone will clean just about anything- if it's ABS, it will dissolve the surface. If it is ABS, MEK will bond that type plastic to the back and it won't come off, at all. |

3M Dual Lock. It's the same brand and model that EZ-Pass uses. Since that stuff holds up to very high temperatures in a car that bakes in the sun for hours on end daily. As well as freezing temperatures daily. It should work in your application as well. As others have said, alcohol wipes and let dry for a few minutes before applying. KOT |
