I have a system that I can't get rid of a low level noise/ hum Sony 3000ES AVR with front pre outs going to a Crown amp
Apple TV> HDMI to the Sony
Remote HDMI wall connection (AV Pro Edge)
Epson Home Cinema 3800 (connected with AV Pro Edge AC-EX444-T2 Extender)
The Sony power cord only has two prongs and the Crown amp has three (ground)
I disconnected all sources and connections from the Sony and only the L/R preouts going to the Crown, still has it.
I also tried an inline RCA ground loop isolator from Amazon (Don't shame me) that didn't work.
The only way it stops is using a 3/2 ground breaker adapter. I know this isn't the way to leave it, so I'm wondering what else should I try. Higher quality RCA ground loop isolator? or what else? |

I always use Jensen. They ain’t the cheapest, but I know that the issue will be gone. I took over a large installation that had stuff scattered all over the house, multiple VCR’s, TV’s, disc players, B&O receivers, Yamaha receivers, and hidden stuff that I don’t think that I have yet discovered. There were ground loops everywhere. I could see that someone had been struggling to eliminate the ground loops. They were using cheap isolators, and no discipline. I installed a few Jensen’s, kept my discipline, and the issue(s) were gone.Make sure that you don’t have an unexpected chassis ground. CATV is a trouble maker. |

OK, so the hum stops when you disconnect the Crown amp- what model and input type? If you're using RCA to XLR, lift the connection to Pin 1, not the electrical ground. If it stops, you're done. If the amp uses the screw-type or Phoenix connections, lift the audio ground wire on that. Your power amp and AVR are powered by the same outlet and on the same circuit, right? |
