I remember several times seeing a pop-up on the screen when installing a new Roku, indicating that you could install memory and have more room for apps. I never really gave it another thought, until today.

A client with many Rokus indicated that they have a couple showing there is not enough memory for the apps they want to load. The model they are using is 4670X, an Ultra, that’s good, but a few generations old.

Googling seems to indicate that a micro SD card can be installed to solve the problem. I guess my question, is installing memory in a few year old Roku the right thing to do for a client, or is a newer Roku going to have more memory and solve the problem, with a slightly better player?

What are the relative costs? As the units age there could be an age related failure and the SD card will become surplus. I don’t have any proof, but I expect that the newer units might respond faster.

5 SD cards for $25 makes me think it would be a quick fix...

The Roku Ultra 4670 was the last Ultra to have a sd slot. The 4800, 4802 and new 4850 do not have sd slots. on the 4670 you do not need to go above 2gb sd cards, it would be waste of money.

I'd get the newest version (about $100) for the client
