Installed a Pioneer VSX-LX505 with a Sonos Port. It will turn the AVR on and select the CD input and work but when you turn the Port off/ pause the AVR never turns off.
Called Pioneer tech and they said it won't turn it off. Well that sucks!!
I've tried plating with auto standby (no signal) but that doesn't seem to work
Anyone have experience with this AVR and or Sonos combined?

I know that I have an old Pioneer Elite SC-95.

Under menu 3f1

Home Menu --> System Setup --> Other Setup --> Auto Power Down --> Choose time. Under that, it states "Selects the time after which power is automatically turned off. Turns the power off if no operation is performed and no video or audio signals are input to the set for a set amount of time." And I have a choice 15, 30 or 60 minutes.

It does not say what input it's referring to, analog or digital or if it matters.

Check to see if your Elite has that and what it does.

That's how "Works With Sonos" works ... it will turn on AVRs but not turn off. Common across all brands that I've used.

The power that an AVR draws when not in use is less than a night light. No problem just leaving it on.
If the customer is one of those crazy people that unplugs the microwave when not using it to save electricity, then just turn the display off on the Pioneer and they'll never notice.

- I use that example because I had a lady once that did that. Couldn't convince her to stop unplugging the microwave (or anything else). If she sees a display on, it's drawing to much electricity and she wanted it off. Not an old lady; she was in her 30's.

Draws less while sitting idle, or in stand by? Energy star measures stand by wattage, AFAIK and not powered- if it remains warm while powered, it's using a lot more than a night light which, BTW, are usually LED, now.

They should show this as 'Works With Sonos (My a$$)' or (Kind of)'.

That is how it works, I am afraid.

You could always try the Amp Genie at $400 to do it for you.

It is near impossible to find what the idle draw is on most electronics, unless someone has tested it themselves and posted it somewhere.

I looked and I found someone that said they measured 14 watts for the LX505 at idle (didn't think it would be that high).
Going with the 14 watt idle, there still shouldn't be a problem leaving the unit on all the time. About $1.25 on the electric bill (with our electric pricing, your area may vary).

SO- I got into the settings and under hardware> power management found Auto Standby. I set it to ON and left Auto Standby with HDMI through on as well (but aren't really using the feature.
I played some Sonos music and tuned Sonos off (paused) and the Pioneer turned off after 20 minutes. It flashed auto standby just before turning off. So, it "seems" to be working, for now.........
