It's too bad that sites like this and IP have slowed to a crawl. They used to be great for info and fun.
Most manufactures have their own dealer forums, and I think we are slowly getting away from trying to figure out or having to figure out what works well with what.

For those that have been around for 20+ years, we and our clients have been the test pilots (or Guinea pigs) for manufactures that had no idea how to implement various protocols from DTS audio to HDMI and handshakes. We had to put their gear through various connections and configurations, as well as communications to find their flaws. Many of us are old and tired and don't really want to do it anymore, or have shifted our focus to specialize in certain products or aspects of a system.
Trainings are done on line, even the Cedia trade show doesn't have the allure it once did. In fact, is Cedia still trying to do things? Don't really hear much about it anymore. Then we also don't have splashy magazines showcasing mega homes with all the gear it once took to make everything work. (and show us systems we wanted to strive for)
We also don't see new must have products that helped drive this industry. Over the course of many years we saw Laser discs, Mini dishes and big screen TV's. That started getting people interested in projection systems, 3 gun and LCD. As they improved, we saw DVD and Dolby digital and there were more improvements that continued the push for home theaters. While all that was going on, multi room audio and smarter music systems were getting added. For those that had serious money, way back then you could have AMX or Phast / Panja for an early smart system. Then we spent the next decade or more "trying" things to get things clients wanted, to work.
Now, as long as you stay inside the system sand box and play with the things they say will work, it has become easy to set up and commission a system. Little to no need to ask a lot of questions anymore. If you are asking, it's probably because you are old school and trying to do something not on the list.

I still manage to pop in every few days but yes it has come to a crawl with traffic. We have a couple guys at the shop and one of them came from a large shop back east. He was aware of RC and is a member. Found we were an RTI dealer and then realized who I was with the mega list. Another guy is new to a lot of this stuff with automation and control, he is learning but not active in any forums or even heard of RC.

It used to be a busy thing years ago, come home and have dinner then hit the forums to find answers or to assist someone who has an issue you just fixed yourself days ago.

What ever happened to Ernie??? Is he still around? I think he did have some health issues at one time but that was 10 years ago
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

So, kind of funny to decide to check in and see this thread. I’m in a couple FB groups, but they are no way as good as RC or IP ever were. Recently in a group I questioned the validity of full blown control systems and some guy told me “maybe you should just go to Remote Central”. I started to tell him, remote central used to be a great place for info and had a lot smarter people than these groups do now.

And like John, I also wondered how Ernie is.

Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

And called, got voicemail, mailbox full.

He was in remission from 2007, I believe.

Anyone near Long Beach that knows about him?

I have not been here in some time. Came last week to try to sort out a SONOS system that has been off line for a couple years. OMG did SONOS screw up a lot of systems with the new app. Tried to convert everything to S2… all good till I got to the ZonePlayer Amps… not compatible ! Wasted a bunch of time.

Good to see some of you old timers around still.

Unless you want to replace the incompatible players, you’ll need to revert the system to S1. Note that the newest players are S2 only.

S1 and S2 systems can be on the same network, but they operate as separate systems, each requiring its own controller App.

Download PHONOS PLUS app.  It tells you all Sonos devices on the network and which are S1 only.

Thank you for the SONOS help attempts. I rarely run into them. I went the HEOS route. When manufacturers directly compete with me I’m out ! Lucky for me I saw the writing on the wall and never even got started with SONOS.

The client is going to “trade in” the 2 existing Amps. SONOS is offering 30% off so we figured this was the least painful way forward.

Thanks again, guys

At this point, a S1 only compatible product will be 10 years old next year. An upgrade is not an unreasonable path in that light.
