Howdy all,

As the title suggests, I've recently encountered the disappearance of IP control on Samsung's 8000 series (and below) TVs. Their premium models still have it. Not sure if this is just an Australian problem, but so far I've found no resolve via firmware/hidden settings etc.

There's no longer any options to select if in their advanced menus, nor in the service menus, and obviously they no longer respond to any pairing commands from C4, despite using the certified driver for the exact models.

This also seems to have come at the same time that they've introduced all of the bloat-ware on their range, as well.

It's becoming a major issue as Sony has also acknowledged that their late model panels go to sleep and disappear from the network after a few hours of off-time, meaning they won't wake-on-LAN, and as-yet, there is no solution. This also means no Mini-App switching.

Are we really going full-circle back to IR control and emitters now?

With both Sony and Samsung effectively out of the IP-control picture, it looks like LG is about the only option that works semi-reliably.

Cheers,

Rob.

For Samsung US, all the QLED (Q60, Q70, Q80, Q85, Q90 models) do have IP control (even the 32" Q60), configured with the "IP Remote" and "Power on Mobile" settings in the Network menu. Not sure about models below that level; I don't sell the 7000 / 8000 series any more. I know that when I do come across older 7000/8000 series (made in the last five years) they typically have both EXLink and IP control, so it's easy to update the control method to either one of those.

Can you get the TCL Roku TVs in Australia? Better performance and features at that lower-end price point.

Do you have a link to the Sony IP control issues? I've never run across a Sony running Android TV (or now Google TV) where IP control didn't work. And RS-232 is still standard on many Sony as well.

You need a "dongle" for later models (available from your distributor), but the Samsung's that I've seen all support RS-232. You may need to get into the service menu to enable this.

Any TV that supports an "App" must have IP control at some level. Being able to use this IP control in a 3rd party App or control system is separate issue.

I've been battling with a couple of these for a while now and have considered going to RS-232, bu that still doesn't get me the ability to use the MiniApp. In addition to this, they are S L O W to function.

I don't think we get teh 32" Q series over here (at least not that I have seen). The only real premium Samsung at that size is a frame, which I try to avoid when it's not completely necessary.
