Hey all.

Client emails me today. He picked up a HEOS sub on Kijiji and wants to get a sound bar to combine together for use in the basement. No problem, send me model numbers.

It turns out he’s purchased the sub that came in the HEOS Home Cinema sound bar kit.

I called Denon CI support 3 minutes too late so I’ll have to call Monday. But in the mean time…. Can anyone tell me, would I be able to pair this sub with a new sound bar? The Home Soundbar 550 for example?

Thanks for your time.

Craig.

It is a HEOS sub, so it is suppose to work with other HEOS products. The Home Soundbar 550 is also a HEOS product.

That being said, the DSW-1H HEOS sub (is that the sub you mean?) would NOT work with that 550 soundbar. There was suppose to be a firmware update that would fix this, early in 2021. But month after month (even update after update) [even after Denon promising it month after month]... it never did!!!
As of September, this combo still didn't work. And Denon was still promising future compatibility. I would NOT go this route unless the update has happened already and it is working. Because if not, good chance it never will.
The DHT-S716H soundbar does work with that HEOS sub thou.

HEOS is such a shi% show of products these days. I would NEVER recommend them to customers. I know a lot of dealers are still pushing them on customers but for the life of me I can't understand why (other than just profit motivation).

I agree that it’s a HEOS product and SHOULD work. Haha. But for all of the reasons you’ve pointed out I’m looking for a confirmation that it WILL.

And I’m with you. I’ve stopped spec’ing HEOS for new deployments.

We only use the HEOSLINK. Its CERTAINLY not for the money. But it just works and works well. No issues. Fugg Sonos. you want streaming music, you get HEOS. Integration is easy and works.

If it is the sub that came with the Heos Home Cinema soundbar/sub combo, it will ONLY work with the sound bar it came with. The DSW-1H (AKA Heos Sub) is designed to work with the 716 and 550 sound bars as well as the Heos amp and Link.

As far as the issues that Brad was having with Heos, if you make sure at install that all products are on the same firmware version you will be good to go. We sell Heos all the time with no issues. Just need to make sure it is installed and configured properly and it is VERY solid. As far as Sonos we do not recommend it at all. We only sell it if the customer asks for it or it’s already in the house. Otherwise it’s Heos all the way. It just works and the integration is top notch.

Thank you very much for your reply. So the firmware update that gets the sub working with the 550 has happened? I’ve only been able to find complaints about it. Not anyone posting that it’s been fixed.

Craig.
