Adding a patio TV, client has DirecTV Genie system. Does DirecTV have an app similar to Xfinity's that would eliminate the need for a box? Is RVU still a thing? Or is a box required?

I'm resurrecting my own thread looking for the same info again. I don't remember what I did 2 years ago - probably installed a wireless box?

Current client wants TV on a patio where there is no wiring other than power. Wifi is strong. Does DirecTv have an app similar to Xfinity that eliminates the need for a box? I found this info about "DirecTv Stream" with a Samsung TV: [Link: directv.com]
Does this work with a Genie system or is "DirecTv Stream" a completely different system?

Directv stream is a completely different system. It’s a streaming app. They do have wireless boxes but it doesn’t work with a genie system. The only wireless genie boxes I’ve seen are the ones that connect to their wireless bridge.

How about RVU? Does a Samsung TV with RVU receive all the same content as a genie client? What connection is required? Coax to multiswitch? Enet? Wireless? I've never used RVU - is it an option?

I've used RVU a few times. You can use Ethernet and possibly even wifi. But that was years ago and I cannot guarantee nothing has changed.
