Ggr, Thanks! You just reminded me that Yamaha has this and it will solve EXACTLY this problem I'e run into: no matter how low you set the input trim on the FM tuner, it's still much louder than the DirecTV receiver and BD player.
Did you know that you can adjust the level up and down for each source in Denon, Marantz and Yamaha? I would be surprised if the others don't allow this.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
Are you attempting to create an input level control and match levels?
Regardless, you many need to stagger when you adjust the volume. For example, when selecting the higher level source, adjust the volume before the input selection.
If you are simply matching levels, and the volume control step size is fixed, increment or decrement the current volume setting while changing sources. Initial volume set will provide a predictable starting point. As the system operator, I don't think that I would like this, but you could insert a "ducking" function while changing inputs.

Found an easier way. Throw Marantz in trash, insert Yamaha.
That would be my preference too. I know that there are some who trash Yamaha, but my experience has been solid. In the (very) rare case when there was a problem, they had my back.

Who has trashed Yamaha, other than Brendon who just doesn't understand how it works?
There's a long history of Yamaha being trashed, mostly focused on harsh audio sound. That "harshness" may well be accuracy.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything. "The biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." -- G. “Bernie” Shaw
If you are using RTI this should totally accomplish what you want.... you can set any volume preset you want with your macros. Have a low volume for one source, another volume for another source , etc.
It is not only on turn on. I set the volume to whatever level i desire whenever. For example.... sometimes i make cool custom intros that play before a movie. I have the volume crank up to show off the audio for the into stuff, then it automatically lowers to a civil volume when the movie plays.
See what I mean here.....?t=4m31s
The command for the main zone is denon volume set then value. For this video linked.... i set command to denon volume set (-160)for intro then adjust it to denon volume set (-220) for the movie

If it's not only on turn on, then yes it would work, although we do not have RTI on the job.
The Excel file that KOT linked to has tab 2 at the bottom, Direct Volume IR codes.
Thanks, I'll have to check later. Its not pulling up on my phone. I looked at it briefly when he posted it and I thought it was the same one I downloaded before that didn't have the volume commands. Maybe it's a different code list
Under that tab, it doesn't really say what it is. But on the first page you can see that it states those columns are "Remote Code: RC-5/ RC-5 Ex. Format"
At first I thought they were RS-232 codes. But I just noticed they are RC-5/RC-5 ex.
It's been a long while since I've worked with Pronto Pro. But couldn't that software generate IR codes out of RC-5/5 EX? Either by itself or with a SW that a member has created on here?
Or if it comes down to it. Download it to a Pronto and learn the IR codes from it.
They sound better than a Marantz hitting the bottom of a dumpster
Marantz? I thought we'd all decided to call them Sherwood's after the factory where a majority of them are made?
This industry is not getting cheaper and cheaper, we're simply convincing ourselves that we have to push the cheapest option to customers. #makesonosgreatagain
