Is anyone having any issues with this switch? I have used them for years without an issue, but have a couple of jobs in which both are having issues with AppleTVs (one with a gen3, one a gen4). One of the jobs is using a Binary single coax HDMI Extender thanks to the builder only running a single quad shield coax to a spot above a fireplace where it is impossible to run wiring without cutting walls up. The other has a Binary HDBT. I've used Binary due to convenience but it may be time to change. I am NOT looking for a snap bashing, but real world feedback on the 5x1 switch and if you've had issues with it specifically.

I've only ever used one of these but a bunch of their 3 x 1 switches without issue. No problems with the single 5 x 1 in the past year using it with ATV3.

I've never had an issue with the 3x1 or 5x1 either until these couple of jobs. Its the only common link. I am going to bypass them on both job for testing purposes but wanted to see if anyone else has seen issues as well.

Hi Goldenzrule,
I manage the Binary media products at Snap. I'd love to dig more into your specific system setup. Most importantly, what specific issues are you having? (no video, flickering, etc.) Also, what content format are you trying to switch between? (HDCP 1.4, 2.2, 1080p, 4K, etc.) Drop me an email at [email protected]. We have rarely heard of issues these switches since we introduced them at the end of 2012. It is important to remember that the B-220 5x1 and 3x1 switches will only support 1080p content. I look forward to helping out.
Best regards,
Brian

Brian, we are just switching 1080p content, no 4k. Using all Binary gear, including b6 HDMI cables. The initial issue I had on the job with the HDBT was HDCP error from the AppleTV. I ended up putting a Binary 1x2 splitter between the AppleTV and the 5x1, which fixed it, or so I thought. I haven't been back, but client says they were watching a movie and after 20 minutes it just went black and would not come back up (claims the kids had a group of friends over, which she says every time there has been an issue, so I take that with a grain of salt...)

The client is getting annoyed, and I am wasting time going back repeatedly, each time believing I have fixed the issue. My next trip back, I am moving the AppleTV to behind the TV. If I go back and the issue is not fixed, the client will become irate.

I have not been back to the second one and am waiting to hear back with more detail. All I know is client said the audio on the AppleTV was staticky, and then video went out on both AppleTV and cable, which is Xfinity. That is using the single coax extender and 5x1.

I have ordered (4) of the Binary 5x1 HDMI switches and have installed them all now. (3) of the switches were with straight IR control and haven't had a problem. The last one was with URC control thru an RF base station. I had problems with both an MRF-260 and MRF-350 to work reliably. I finally narrowed it down to the switcher, it was giving off massive RF interference.
I took it out and dropped in an Ethereal 5x1 HDMI switch (nothing else changed), all the problems went away. Ethereal was easier to control and a few bucks cheaper as well.
YMMV.

Sources involved with these systems were Xfinity cable boxes, Sony blurays, AppleTV 4th gen (and 3rd gen), Roku Ultra, and XBOX One.
The one that gave me issues had Xfinity, Sony bluray, and AppleTV 3rd gen.

Ive solved several Apple TV issues by switching it to 720 instead of 1080. Not related to Binary.

i have had many issues with the 5x1 binary switcher and DirecTV.  If using the lower numbered ports, the video cuts out.  Input 1 is especially bad, so I don't use that input for any source just to be safe.  Basically it is a 4x1 switcher as far as I'm concerned.

As long as we use Input 5 for DirecTV, it works fine.

I'm using input 5 for Cable as a matter of fact.

I am on site now. I lowered the resolution of the ATV to 720p and it came right up. You could see a difference in PQ being on a 75" XBR. Plan was to move the ATV to behind the tv anyway, as I am tired of coming back here.

Text the client that all is working well, and her only response was "Until we sit down tonight to watch".

I hate this job.

Should have replaced it with a more reliable HDMI switch this time. Just saying.

Sorry SnapAV, but it does have a power cord. So....

No thanks. I have had enough issues. Putting the ATV upstairs took ten minutes and I remove a potential continuing issue.

Oh no you didn't !!! :)

I still can't see how you have had such good luck. I mean you have installed thousands of their electronic devices now, with very few problems.
So many others simply can't get that kind of luck with them.

I did eventually use that HDMI switcher on a job that was straight IR control only, worked fine. But I do wonder if all of them were emitting large amounts of RF or if it was only that 1.
