OK... now I'm seeing a pattern. I just came across my 3rd 780 this year with a dim display. Not only that, but some of the images are burned into the screen. Does anyone have a fix - besides a new remote. You'd think they last longer than 2 years.

Call URC, this is a known problem with the MX780. They might be able to do something for you... The newer MX780 does not have this problem.

Yes, this is a VERY known issue with URC dealers. And URC will replace the remote free of charge.

They originally tried to use an OLED screen. Obviously didn't work out so well for them. All the ones sold in the last year or two are LCD screen.

Do you contact URC directly, or go thru your distributor?

You contact URC directly and they issue the RMA. Just need the serial number from the remote.
They will ship back a new or refurbished MX-780 with the LCD screen.

Did you look at the settings for the remote? Is it possible that someone became curious and messed with things they shouldn't? I added a few buttons to an MX780 yesterday and when I picked it up, it was darker than it should be, so I pressed the light button on the side and it returned to normal.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Its a common issue. The remote screens dim to extremely dark, some are barely visible at all. There is no fix other than replacement.

Most from 2013. Mfr date in battery compartment.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Not really required if you know the remotes. I can just look at the remote and know if it's an LCD or OLED remote

I know, but not all have this problem.

Actually yes. ALL the 1st generation MX-780 that used the OLED screen, will do this when enough hours get on them. And it isn't just the dark screen, when they get that dim, it shifts to a very reddish color. And many times have image retention of the icons.

I'll check the dates on a couple of the ones I programmed- I haven't seen it, so far.

URC is replacing them even if out of warranty. The issue has already been explained: OLED screens. ALL newer ones are LED.

The OEM of the screen is also standing behind the warranty as they are the ones that are the culprit.

URC wont replace them forever of course, nor should they. I think the limit on replacement is four years. Not bad on a two year warranty.

This, for me, is what brought up the whole issue of OLED screens. Does this mean ALL OLED screens have a super short life span? Ive been hesitant and concerned on getting a several thousand dollar OLED TV, which ARE stunning!, in the fear that OLED will die in a few short years? Or was this just a fluke from the OEM of this particular screen on the 780 (TRC-780's did the same thing, not just the MX-780)? Dont know. Never got a real answer. Thus, no OLED TV.
