I need to integrate a Pentair IntelliTouch pool controller with HomeWorks QS and trying to gather some information through the pool contractor with mixed results.

I'm familiar with the ScreenLogic Ethernet Protocol adapter that connects the IntelloTouch pool controller to the network and provides app control so I was expecting to also be able to use this to integrate with HWQS using Ethernet.

Pool contractor says the only integration is through RS-232 using the IntelliTouch i-Link Protocol adapter.

Can anyone confirm that RS-232 is the only supported integration option?

I've just done 3 and only option was i-Link RS232 for Crestron. Local pool contractor also said it was the only way to integrate for automation control.

Done it with C4, Vantage all had to be RS232. The Vantage was flakey so we had to power cycle the pool controller every night for reliable operations

The i-link device connects to the pentair bus at one end and provides you with a DB9 connector at the other end for RS-232.

I have done a half dozen pools with these so far and this is what i know...

#1.Pool contractors know nothing about this mysterious device.

#2.They die a lot. 3 out of 6 have had to be replaced.

#3.You will most likely have to meet with the pool contractor and get them to decipher whatever they have scribbled on their pool controllers so that you know what to name things in the program. If they actually hand you a document with the information please give them a kiss for me...they are unique and should be treated special.

Thanks for the feedback guys!  Looks like I'll need to have the pool contractor supply both the i-Link for integration and the ScreenLogic protocol adapter for app support.

I'm surprised they don't have Ethernet integration...

We recently did a project where we hooked up a screen logic system to a pentair pool panel. The pool guy was being a PIA. The homeowner just wanted to control things through the native apps (Pentiar, Lutron, Nest etc) Long story short, we decided to take a shot at it.

We ordered the Screen Logic Kit on-line (wireless thingy and protocol box.) Hooked up four wires to the pentair pool panel (I'm pretty sure the terminals were labeled RS-232) and then connected it to the network. Plug and play, just worked. We had network a few feet from the pool equipment so we didn't even need to use the wireless gizmo.

My point is... It was so easy to do, we didn't need to bother with the pool guy (past projects required us to straighten out the pool guy messing up the network.) It was Allot cheaper too. Four wires into the pentair panel and it's done.

It seems that the RS-232 gizmo would be just as easy to hook up.

I came across this in my research for the project I posed about above...

Not sure if it is of any help to you but I figured I post and let you decide.

Considerably less expensive than the Pentair rs232 Gizmo.

most contractors around me use Jandy (zodiac) which is IP controlled or RS232.

Pool Contractors are literally the worst people on the face of the earth. Most dont even know how to set automation timing on the aqualinks for their own systems (intelligent or not)

when i meet with the pool contractor ill ask him some few basic questions and if he fails them I just tell him to proceed as normal and ill talk to the client. Once everyone is gone ill supply the proper parts and install them in the panel (replacing the board) Its easy and i can guarantee it will work.

if my clients are going through a pool renovation and upgrade I tell them to request Jandy. So much more friendly to integrate then pentair

Your best bet in my experience is to make friends at a pool shop and supply them yourself.
