I have a Cat5e run from house to poolhouse and need a powered rca source baluns. Do you know anybody that makes them ? Passive baluns do not work. Just trying to replace powered speakercraft /elan ones that are not made anymore .

gefen makes a set with stereo mini ins and outs, respectively. 5 volt power, up to 1000 feet.

??? You can go almost 1000 feet on most quality passive audio baluns, over cat5 cabling (specs will say anywhere from 2500 to 5000 feet - Niles, MuxLab, etc.). I have got to ask why, are passive ones failing but powered ones are working. Something is very wrong here.

Brad's right. Instead of answering your request (sorry), let's back up and see why you need them to be powered, since normal ones should easily go that distance.
What kind of performance would you/did you have with unpowered baluns, that makes you think you need powered ones?
In fact, what is a powered balun? I'd think it's a balun with a bit of a preamp. You could get an RDL stereo preamp and boost your signal at the sending end. (Don't boost it at the receiving end.) Be sure in that case that you don't overpower the following stage and create distortion.

I also agree that it seems like the issue is something else, but that being said, AudioControl makes some really nice active extenders.

I have a pair of used Audio Control active extenders I will let go for very little$
They work great - 4 channels audio over a single Cat 5.
PM if interested.

^^^^ this. I have found that sometimes you need to overcome noise in the lines, be it from adjacent power runs or other noise. For example, a bar I did a bunch of TVs in had neon signs plugged into the same circuit and I tell u what those high quality powered drivers from AudioControl cleaned it up perfectly.
Of course the guys are right. It would be nice (and less cost) to see if you can get rid of the noise first, but completely rerunning wires is usually not so easy.
