You've complained about this before. There's nothing "fancy" here, I just click on the Link tool in the message edit box.

As I write, I'm in the "Post a response" box. I'm not sure what the "message edit" box is. Neither Normal nor Advanced windows of this box have a "Link" tool. It's not under favorite Options, either.

Aha. Now I'm in the Advanced screen, I see the chain symbol, named Link, up next to the broken chain, named Unlink. Is that what you mean? Looks like you click on Link, then type a URL. But how do you get a word or two to show up instead of the linked URL?

And I'd rather not have a new tab or window open when I click on a link. I use Firefox and it will display the link location as I hover over a link.

Okay, this happens in Chrome, too. But what help is it to display the link location? Do you memorize it and then type it? Obviously not, but what is simpler about this approach so you like it?

Coming back to this site is a simple key sequence and I don't need to take a hand off of the keyboard.

Please tell me how that works, too. You started by saying you just click on the Link tool, and true to form, every time someone says "just," they leave out details: you have to be in the Advanced edit screen. You implied later that you like not having to take your hand off the keyboard, but you have to do exactly that to go to the Advanced screen, and then do it again to click on the Link button.

So I'm not following your logic. Just typing the URL on the line, a link is formed; yes, it's in a new tab, but you can Alt+Tab to the new tab, then click to close the tab. That's one "hands off the keyboard" compared to your two.

At this point, I'm just wondering, and I feel it's easier for me as your reader to see the basic URL and click on it, getting another tab, rather than have some miscellaneous words turn into a URL and bury the page I'm reading under the new URL.

For most people, this will be a big meh, I'm sure.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
