The problem is that, after Save or Save As, the file saves, then a moment later the image jumps up about 1/2" on the screen, I get an hourglass, according to Task Manager the program isn't responding, and it lasts like that for about five minutes. During this time, no remote was connected. It was just the computer.

The computer is a ThinkPad T420 running Windows 7. I had CCP Commercial, and with URC Tech guys today I have:
cleared regedit of old URC settings
turned off the windows firewall
uninstalled CCP Commercial
Installed CCP Residential
Restarted the computer (but only a moment ago, not during any of the above)
Found that the "not responding" delay is the same as before.

The last Tech guy I spoke with, Michael, gave me the usual Windows kind of answer: it might be something with some settings on your computer. Try it on a different computer and see what happens.

I'm quite convinced, since no, he's never heard of this happening, that it's a problem with this computer. It's a pity he had no clue where to go.

Any ideas?

My idea is to try a different computer.

I have stumped them before as well. I am not sure I like being able to do so.

Sounds like a computer issue to me.
I use a laptop with Windows 7 Pro on it and I have never had a problem with CCP on it.

I would start by saving any data you need off the laptop. Then reformatting the laptop. This will start you with a clean slate. If you still have issues after that, your motherboard, processor, hard drive or some other hardware could be failing you. Time for new laptop.

I know doing all that will take an entire day of your time (at the least). But not much else to do at this point. Unless you skip right to buying a new laptop but you still going to have hours of setting it up :)

Mmm, sadly those are the strange kinds of problems where the usual solution is "to restore to a time when it wasn't happening". And if that can't happen, and uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't fix it... it's often time to give up on that installation of Windows.

Sounds like the program might be having trouble doing file I/Os or querying something for status. Have you tried disabling antivirus? Checked the Event Log for anything weird happening at that time?

Expand Task Manager to observe other parameters such as memory usage, page faults, I/O reads and writes, and page faults to see what the task is locked on doing or what the task is not doing.

Process Explorer from System Internals (Microsoft) can provide even more useful information.

How long have you been in this industry? And you still believe tech support when they tell you, "this is the first time I've heard of this problem"?

Ernie, I've got an awesome investment deal we need to talk about.

They honestly haven't SEEN it before because it's not on THEIR computer monitor.

They also haven't heard it before because they aren't really listening.

Might be better to hire someone to tell you "No shit?" and then hang up on you.

Same result. You're pissed and still have no answer.

More than half the time, CCP opens and locks up when I first turn on the computer. I have to use program manager to quit the app. Restarting it works fine 100% of the time.

Did this with my old Dell w/serial port and XP. Still does it on a new Toshiba and W8.

I guess it is not the computer.

And yet, they can and do use Team Viewer for support, so yeah, they can freaking see it!

I just brought this up because I want to give ammunition to people who complain about technical service: this BS is still happening.

As of yesterday, at least, they have a site that lets them share control. It's URChelp or something like that. Perhaps now that Team Viewer costs money, they decided to act like pros on that issue and get their own software.

Edit: I'm on the way back out there with the same computer to correct the programming on three MX50s. Wish me luck.
