"Hi, Brent! We spoke about a week ago about this. My notes are far from perfect. I Will be installing all 4K components for a client in a few months:
Samsung UBD-K8500/ZA,
Yamaha RXA2060,
Samsung UN65KS8000FXZA.
You told me to order the MHX-HDME10 and HDM-GA1. They are in my shopping cart. I don't remember why you did not recommend the EHV-HD10 for this application. I realize it is active. I told you 35' last week. I have revised the length down to 30'. Cables will be permanently hidden behind drywall and elaborate fireplace enclosure. I will likely install 2 HDMI cables from the rack to the display anyway, but I want to make an informed decision on my choice of cables."

This is a somewhat common question, we (Ethereal) are fortunate to have a 15 meter cable (Velox) that will fully support the complete feature set of the HDMI 2.0a specification, so why would I recommend a passive cable with a repeater (the MHX and GA1 option)?
Simple..Application.
If the cable is going in the wall/ceiling I prefer a passive cable, this way I am not limited to todays technology when things change (such as all of the current Redmere cables that are for all intents and purposes now useless). On the other hand when I am rack wiring or running the cable between a credenza and a wall mount display where it can be later replaced I use the Velox.

Because you're not Wesley Mullings.

It is not possible to futureproof, and it's even harder to futureproof futureproofing. But this comes damn close.

When the video signal changes such that the HDMI wires won't be used, you'll be glad you ran that CAT cable and or ran in a conduit.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Brent -- your suggestion for any new installation should always be "an empty 2" conduit".

Fair and very true statement.
As obvious as this seems many "CI's" are afraid to ask for the money to do this and most builders will not think past last year.

Why lays beyond wireless anyways? I mean, how can you future proof wireless?

If they are afraid to ask for it then they should just put in the $15.00 worth of conduit to cover their ass. Or, put in the quote future proof wire, conduit or wireless is not included. And if they ask why the wireless is not included. Run.

And for the guy that asked the question to you. He is putting in 2 HDMI cables. He should run two different HDMI's. No guarantee one model will be compatible.

This is currently somewhat mandatory as the claims of full 18 Gbps and HDR support by AVR's and other switching devices are iffy. This means the the 4K/HDR source needs to be a direct Video run to the display, the audio goes out the second HDMI to the AVR (this is the correct way to "cover your donkey").
