What have your experiences been over the last while, since this was discussed here? What's the product to use in our industry? Is there any difference between usage with commercial clients and residential clients?
Thanks for any insights.

I love Square.
Invoice from my Mac or Swipe if needed. Set Appointments Online Store (if needed) Time Cards Marketing Email Campaigns Payroll Next day deposits (you can even get same day deposits if you want to pay a smudge higher %). I've never done it, but the option is there for someone.
They'll even give you a loan and pull it off of a percentage of what you take in on each sale.
I only use it for invoicing, but I wouldn't go back to Quickbooks if Jesus was the CEO. There's no difference whatsoever between residential and commercial.
Once you do over 100k per year with them, they send over some sort of form that you've gotta fill out, which I'm sure they send up to the "man".
Other than that, I love it. There might be some cheaper options out there, I'm not sure, but I won't leave.

I'm actually trying to decide right now between square or just using Chase's merchant services. Chase sounds good on paper, but there is always some hidden Gotcha! with Chase that makes me wary

Chase sounds good on paper, but there is always some hidden Gotcha! with Chase that makes me wary I use Chase and have been very happy. I do about $50K and year in CC charges and have had no problems. I am still waiting to see what kind of portable chip reader they come out with. My current Citi card will no longer work with some non-chip reader terminals.

Speaking of credit cards...
In Illinois i cant think of a single place i have been to in 20 years that doesn't accept credit cards. Huge culture shock when i am working in the South Hampton NY area. Every other place doesn't accept credit cards or wont let you tip with credit cards. Today we went to a burrito place...bill was $40 and no credit cards and no ATM. Whats up with these people?

Square is way overpriced. We use Chase and save at least 1.2-1.95%. You have to buy the readers initially but if you do any sort of volume it doesn't matter. The decision to change saved us 1000s of dollars.

It matters substantially if it's thousands out of thousands or thousands out of hundreds of thousands or even millions.

Chase is about 1% less than Square for a card swipe transaction. Do $100K and that is over $1K in savings. Plus since I keep my iPad in a protective case, I use the BTMag Bluetooth reader so I don't have to take it out. Don't think Square has one of those.

We use CC processing for small invoices only typically. RARELY do we accept CC for larger purchases. Its too much of a hit in fees no matter what processor you use. Square deposits funds next day, typically by 6am. Hassle free and a good website to track transactions.
I previously used Intuit and they suck. Monthly fees plus transaction fees. They made my client and I jump through hoops for a $4000 charge. Client was on vacation and had to spend time on the phone with them a few times to prove who they were and accepted the charges. Was a clusterf*&%
I am happy and content with Square and not looking to change.
