Client is doing an outdoor structure with TV and Sonos. The majority of it is being tiled with individual wedge shaped tiles, and there are currently no cabinets or compartments for anything.
I need space for a Comcast box, Sonos Connect, an amp of some sort at this point.
Thought of framing the backside, which faces the fence, and having a door on it. Simple, except it rains here sometimes, and likely would not be weatherproof.
Contractor asked if I had some sort of weatherproof box he could frame in and install.
What about keeping these things cool? Seems like I am on a collision course here and too many conflicting issues.
House is 80' away, so technically I could house gear there, but that just opens a new can of worms for HDMI, control, and a few other things.
Can you give me some solutions that you have implemented that cover weather, access, and cooling? Many thanks!

Gear inside, have power on the same circuit for TV, cable Box, Sonos, etc. Use control system of your choice. Run video over Ethereal HDMI over SDI so the receiver will fit into the sealed box of whatever outdoor TV you use.

We are working on an outdoor poolhouse/gazebo. 80" sharp, jbl control 29's, a couple of dual 10 subs, crown Cdi amps. We had the HDMI extender weather proofed by sealoc as well as the 4 lutron radio ra dimmers. The electronics are in a cabinet in the poolhouse. Tv was old sharp from great room, so no weatherization on it, when it dies it gets an outdoor tv.
If you can get the components in the house like others mentioned and use an HDMI extender you should be good.

There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far. |

Whatever you do, realize that if you make a custom enclosure for a TV that a new custom enclosure will have to be built for the replacement TV (unless the replacement is smaller), whether that's one or five or whatever years down the road.
For four and a half years I've had a Crown CT210 watt amp in a waterproof enclosure between the sink and the barbecue of one client's barbecue island. Southern California in an area where it gets hot. No special ventilation, just five or so cubic feet of air. I see no reason not to insist that something weatherproof be constructed for equipment that must be weatherproofed.

Hoffman makes outdoor boxes that can be mounted in or onto a surface. Use one of those and modify to your liking. [Link: alliedelec.com]Grainger has them too.

I was in a similar situation and used NEMA enclosures that had thermostatically controlled fans. I think they have models with heat too, but not required for my location. I had to use two enclosures to fit the gear which included Cable TV receiver, Sonos Connect Amp, 5-Port Ethernet Switch, Wattbox and POE power supply. No problems with install which was completed over three years ago:
