It's far from stock but very reliable.
1997 Road king that I've had since new.

I never understood the Harley fascination. I guess that is due to my experiences with the older "shake some parts off" versions.

Bought one of these in 83 and toured the Southeast with my then gal pal that I married in 84.

Smooth as silk and you could actually ride for hours with no discomfort. Water cooled, shaft drive was a nice thing.

On a solo ride across Alligator Alley one time, I cruised along at 160. It was claimed they would do 173 out of the box with no tweeks, and I do believe it would have.

Wish I had kept it.

You wrote that I implied something and think you didn't infer? How does that work?

Ok. Word.

BTW, you assumed I meant to leave the Bendix alone. Also, if I want to use a starter motor for this application, what makes a Bendix necessary, at all? There's no reason to dis-engage the motor- it's not starting an engine.

My comments on the Bendix spring started by referring to someone saying you could use the starter motor as a brake. I said no, you can't, not if the Bendix spring is still on it.

Consider, too: if you're using a starter motor, it has a Bendix spring. If you're "just" using a starter motor, it has a Bendix spring. If, instead of just using it, you're taking the Bendix spring off of it, you'll then be using the motor out of a starter motor, since a starter motor is an assembly that includes a Bendix spring, and without the Bendix spring it is no longer a starter motor.

You can stop responding. At this point I'm just feeding you as though you're a troll, and you're falling for it.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Get over yourself.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."
