Just use a starter from an older truck, a switch & relay and a car battery on a cycle frame. If it's direct drive, you won't even need brakes. If you go direct drive from a starter motor, the Bendix spring won't allow the motor to act as a brake. Imagine that. The words "Bendix spring" at remotecentral!

You wrote "just use a starter." That qualifier "just" implies you don't modify one... you just pick it up and use it. The Bendix spring is an integral part of a starter motor. Removing it is not "just" using the motor. This reminds me of advice I give about "just" and "simply" and other such words that are often given when telling people how to do things: Whenever someone says "just" or uses similar words, they are about to omit seventeen details that are totally crucial to the success of the enterprise. I happen to like the number seventeen. That detail is not to be taken literally. Here's an example from a thread about 4K: On June 5, 2016 at 06:33, thecapnredfish said...
If they are afraid to ask for it then they should just put in the $15.00 worth of conduit to cover their ass. "Just" putting in the $15.00 worth of conduit strongly implies that it's going to cost fifteen bucks or something like it. Meanwhile, this conduit needs to be routed, often sideways, through a wall. If the wall is made of 2x4s, a 2" conduit IS NOT trivial. Labor for this would almost have to be more than a hundred dollars, taking it out of the fifteen buck category. But "just" put it in. Fifteen bucks. Right.

It's far from stock but very reliable. 1997 Road king that I've had since new.
It's an Evo with bigger jugs, stroked, higher compression pistons, head work, cams ground to my specs, and some tender loving tuning.
I built the motor and mapped the fuel injection/ignition curve.
It's a rocket on 92 pump gas yet docile enough for two up touring. Most of it's 45,000 miles since I built it have been spent touring the US with the wife on board.
I new it felt pretty quick for an 850lb bike(1250 loaded for a road trip) so I had it dynoed. The power curve is impressive. Lots of torque down low followed by a huge rush of HP around 5500 to 8200 rpm
As it stands,it will smoke the 103 screamin eagle.
I'm an engineer and motorhead at heart. I just do A/V work because it's easier!! 850 lbs? Guess thats why they call them HOGS. Could it beat the Lightning LS-218? It won at Pike's Peak, and hit 218 at Bonneville. 168 ft lbs of torque 200 hp 10,500 rpm 0 to 60 in 2 swconds 218 mph 450 lbs -- Not too shabby.

Don't they have an electric bike site that you could go spew this to? Then you and the other electric bike geek heads can get in a circle jerk together, they might even make you pivot man!!

I'm not really inferring anything. Defnitions of the adverb "just" include "exactly," "to an exact degree or in an exact manner," and "only or merely."
That is, if you "just use a starter motor," you use the exact motor, merely taking it and only using it as it is.

As much as I would like to take one for a spin,I doubt my wife would enjoy riding 500-600 miles a day on it for a couple of weeks! I'm also not sure how we could bring clothes and other supplies on it other than a back pack and that's a lame option for touring. As is a crotch rocket of any kind. We prefer to be comfortable on our 4-6 thousand mile trips.

BTW, you assumed I meant to leave the Bendix alone. Also, if I want to use a starter motor for this application, what makes a Bendix necessary, at all? There's no reason to dis-engage the motor- it's not starting an engine.
