Let me amend this slightly:

On June 1, 2016 at 08:07, buzz said...
It is important that only one "expert" is mucking with things. If there is an IT guy on the project I'll provide a very specific list of my requirements and make very clear to everyone that networking is the IT guy's domain from here on.

He is responsible for any and all A/V issues, for which he may hire me to meet him on the job so that I may WORK ( = $ ) for the client to resolve issues without upsetting his control of the rest of the network.

We usually get screwed by the IT guy, since he doesn't know and doesn't ask how his work can mess up the A/V part of the system. We should take the next step and insist that an IT guy MUST hire an A/V guy to integrate into the existing system any needed changes. Anything else makes the system into the Wild West.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

If you are simply looking for employment then a heartbeat is all that is needed. It's like riding a bike and you will pick everything back up quickly! Sure IT and understanding wireless are the most important tools in today's bag, most (hell all) companies will hire you regardless of your networking experience. Save your 4K and use it for alcohol to ease the pain of HDMI and....wait for it.....4K. And if you want a job in MPLS, PM me ;) Chris is too far north and TommyBoy is a tyrant for a boss! JK!

LOL I must be terrible because I have no employees! :)

Don't work for Drew, his business is so big you'll just become a number ;)

The 4K from the OP reminds me of the Vegas Vacation bit. "why don't you give me half the money you were gonna spend, we'll go out back, I'll kick you in the nuts, and we'll call it a day!" #HDMI

Besides IT, learn as much as you can about construction, electrical, a little plumbing, a little HVAC, and trim carpenter. Being a good installer requires being a jack of all trades especially if you start dealing with control4, crestron, and the various other control systems.

Know the various types of wiring and the correct terminology. Know what type of anchors to use when installing a tv, know the right tool to use and how to use it, and how to patch drywall. I could keep going on and on.

Pay attention to the small details. I always ask myself, if this was in my house, could I look at and be ok with it?
