Let me amend this slightly:

It is important that only one "expert" is mucking with things. If there is an IT guy on the project I'll provide a very specific list of my requirements and make very clear to everyone that networking is the IT guy's domain from here on.
He is responsible for any and all A/V issues, for which he may hire me to meet him on the job so that I may WORK ( = $ ) for the client to resolve issues without upsetting his control of the rest of the network.
We usually get screwed by the IT guy, since he doesn't know and doesn't ask how his work can mess up the A/V part of the system. We should take the next step and insist that an IT guy MUST hire an A/V guy to integrate into the existing system any needed changes. Anything else makes the system into the Wild West.
