I need to feed an XLR microphone into a Control4 audio matrix. In this case it does not need to be mixed with any other audio. What can you guys recommend for a preamp?

I would recommend the DBX gorack

Why?

Because in addition to a gain stage, it offers compression and feedback suppression technology.

When your customer goes for a walk under speakers, or decides that they want to drop the mic because they saw some comedian do it, you'll understand.

If it's a condenser mic make sure that what you choose can also provide phantom power.  Most dynamic mics don't require power, but there are exceptions so make sure you know what mic you're using.

We use the Art-Audio TubeMP for that exact situation with the C4 switcher. Works fine.
