Yup, I'm talking specifically about Aeroplan too. :-)
I serious *seriously* doubt they actually "delete" anything. They just remove your access from the files, and then extort you to get access back - which is literally a single button click away. Thats why i put "recovery" in quotes. It's a customer punishment tax to teach you not to let your card expire again. All it does is make people angry. The only reason most people just deal with it is because they don't have another $3000-10000 to pay their "web guy" to rebuild the site somewhere else. With other companies, I've occasionally missed renewal payments on domains. Every time, NOTHING has happened right away. In fact, I just found an email from one that says everything will continued to be registered to me for a "limited time", and all I need to do is renew at the regular rate to restore all service. No extortion. Granted I don't do hosting with them - but the email includes reference to services, and it's the same deal.

They also made their site more confusing, deliberately I am sure, so that you have to search a bit to update payment info.

Go Daddy should name themselves as Danica Patrick. Destroyed your sites as she destroyed her multimillions dollars race cars in the first 15 laps in every race. On May 19, 2016 at 06:57, thecapnredfish said...
Lol Radiorhea. I would be scared of an out of town guy wearing a measly 91/2 boot! You should feel lucky they moved the cabinets if in fact they had fixed anything. They do not have to move or put back anything. All on the hoem owner. I feel your pain. Never liked ATT and have them for cell now. And tell godaddy to take a hike. Stupid name anyways!

GoDaddy just sucks. As can be found written all over the 'net, they nickel and dime you for everything. I cut my losses and switched away from them just 2 months after transferring to them, had prepaid basic hosting for 2 years, but didn't want to be pecked at for the duration. You inspired me to look: www.antigodaddy.comwww.godaddyhostingsucks.com[Link: lifehacker.com][Link: hostbenchmarker]Just google godaddy sucks. You'll also find information on how to jump ship.

I wouldn't host or register my domain there, but Godaddy is a decent place for the very inexperienced to get something going. If you test the waters in order to see if Domain Name XYZ is available (it is), but want to think it over for a few days before pulling the trigger, you may find that you'll then need to buy that name from someone. Actually, one needs to dig a bit to find out exactly where your hosting is done. It's common practice for a big guy to have private brand reseller affiliates.

It's a bit more expensive but we have a hosted, dedicated machine setup. We use Softlayer in our case. So we just have our own rack mounted machine that we manage remotely. A pretty basic machine provides plenty of oomph for a low to modest traffic site. They've been quite good for us with no problems to speak of. We've been using it for like a decade now or some such.

Been using Globat since 2004. It's not the cheapest option, but I have only found my site down a few times and customer service is amazing.
Had to get the site back up and and running via cell while on vacation because of an expired / cancelled card, but they didn't charge me to "recover" it like GoDaddy.
About 20 minutes after I called, I was all back to normal. In fact, is was someone from the RC forums who called wanting to know if I sent out of business. :) The site was "gone" for 2-3 days and they really needed a template.

The only reason most people just deal with it is because they don't have another $3000-10000 to pay their "web guy" to rebuild the site somewhere else. A friend just lost her website of ten years because she missed the email -- sent to an email address she hasn't used in years -- telling her that a payment was due, or that the card was showing as not valid... I don't exactly remember, since the conversation was not a calm ordinary conversation. She mentioned a figure of $4000 as a possible cost that these thieving a$$holes might end up costing her. And, of course, her domain name was her business name and everything was just perfect until this hammer fell. Jerks.

Jerks. I'll bet you that her account is set to alert her via some form of communication other than the email address they used. I opened up a complaint with the attorney generals office. F them.

Part of the problem with the email alert is that most of them spam the hell out of you so you so valid emails end up in with the junk you delete every day.

In fact, they never do. Not in junk folder or anything. AND my account is set to have them call me if there are billing issues. They did not call.
