Thanks for the input, cgav! Which receiver? Do you have a brand or model you wish to provide?

We use Integra (70.6) and Sony (2000 and 3000). No installation we have done so far has an HDR capable receiver. If the projector has HDR - we just run two HDMI. One from 4k BluRay and one from Receiver. BUT ALWAYS THE VELOX FOR THE 4K. We've spent untold amounts of money trying different cables but none have ever passed everything except for the Velox. The JVC projector has a great INFO screen that shows the signal specs being received. Only the VELOX cable passes the full image in my experience (5+ meters). I haven't tried the Tributaries fiber cable yet - but no reason to since we have been so successful with the much cheaper Velox cable.
The VELOX isn't the cheapest cable around, but save yourself time and aggravation and just buy it first. I have no affiliation with Ethereal.

That's great information, cgav! I use Yamaha Aventage almost exclusively. I don't think Brent's staff tests Yamaha in their labs. Brent, please correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone else have a similar testimony as cgav, except with Yamaha? Their 2015 Aventage line (i.e. RXA1050,etc) should be HDR capable.

We are happy to test anything that we can get ours hands on. We have however not gotten very much in the way of the new 4K AVR's for m anyone, this is not to say that the mfgr's would not provide products, it is instead that we have not asked (why you may say). #1: We have been building a new test facility and then moving into it, this took longer than anticipated. #2: It is a safe assumption that the first gen 4K products from anyone will be "iffY' we thought it best to get thru a few rounds of "Firmware Updates" prior to begging for gear. #3: Lastly, I just have not had the time. Hope to provide better info to both you and the equipment mfgr;s by CEDIA.

If I got you an RX-A1050, what would be turnaround time for you to test it and ship it back? Have enough moons elapsed for the Hey-Diddy-eM-I nasties to have been shaken out of the chassis?
I assume you would pay shipping to return it to me and would make good on any UPS or Fedex mishap that might occur. This would be a client's unit, with their permission. And it won't be right away.

Ernie, thank you. But it really is a matter of us being in a time position to do justice to the testing procedure. Most of the AVR mfgr's (D & M, Yamaha and Onkyo/Integra) will send us anything that we ask for, I do not have contacts (yet) for the others, but I will be working on that at CEDIA. We are also working on displays, JVC has send us a test unit and we are working with Lumagin to get a processor sample and Sony is definitely on my call list. Even companies that are to some degree a competitor (such as Zektor) provide us items for compatibility testing. Lab is now about setup so we are on the verge of once again getting serious about this.

Are the cables Active (Redmere) or Passive? If they are Active they roll off at 10 G (Hard) and will NOT support anything higher than 4K/60, 4:2:0. This means NO HDR . We have also seen issues with Active cables and some of the new HDCP registries. Brent can you clarify: The real world benefit of 4k/30 is HDR, but in terms of what a customer will actually notice, is this the main benefit vs 4k/60. This a great thread! So educational!

Simple list of the HDMI 2.0A video feature sets;
Under 10 Gbps(safely) 4K/24, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video. 4K/30, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video. 4K/60, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video.
Under 10 Gbps(iffy!!!) 4K/24, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video & HDR (not a fan of this due to very noticeable banding).
Between 10 Gbps and 18 Gbps 4K/24, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 10 Bit Video & HDR 4K/30, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 10 Bit Video & HDR 4K/60, 4:2:0 Color Gamut, 10 Bit Video & HDR (My Favorite!) 4K/24, 4:4:4 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video. 4K/30, 4:4:4 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video. 4K/60, 4:4:4 Color Gamut, 8 Bit Video.
IMHO: The 10 Bit HDR is more visible to your client, 4:4:4 color gamut adds a lot to the picture (lushness) but is not as demonstrable as the 10 Bit HDR.

Brent, I sent an "order specific" RC mail to you earlier. They are easy to miss. Please check when you have the time...no rush. Thanks!

I now have the HDM-GA1 gigabit accelerator and 10 meter cables (MHX-HDME10) installed in my "testing lab" in my home. They are connected to the Samsung 2015 model UN65JS9000 and the 4K UHD UBD-K8500/ZA blu ray player. (I also have .5m and 1m "pigtails" connected through keystone HDMI connectors.) As Brett indicated, these cables and the accelerator were necessary to achieve the best picture possible in this scenario. Fortunately, the Samsung TV will display the following to confirm all is properly connected...and the appropriate HDMI input is selected on the remote: "3840X2160/24PHDMI UHD COLOR UHD". I actually created a trial and error type spreadsheet to tack different cable/input/picture setting scenarios. I have arrived at the conclusion that, due to a required HDMI UHD COLOR manual setting in the Samsung TV, it is necessary to bypass the 4K Yamaha RXA1050 AVR for video switching. I believe this will be true of any AVR, regardless of the brand, at this time. This HDMI UHD COLOR TV setting is input specific. This is because other non-UHD sources will show noticeable color distortions if they share the same HDMI input when set to UHD COLOR. Until this setting can be switched automatically on future TVs, this will require 2 HDMI cables feeding the TV. One for UHD, the other for non UHD. I still use the HDMI audio output from the UBD-K8500/ZA to the AVR. Thank God for Universal remotes to do all the dirty work for the client! I would also like to everyone, especially Brent, for all the input in making this effort successful. I am still in the testing mode, and will provide any relevant updates. I will be using the same setup later this week with a Samsung 2016 TV, the UN65KS8000FXZA. Finally..I am personally still very much in the learning mode. Of course, that never stops in this field. I am still wide open for any further input, disagreement, or suggestions.

PatMac:
I do not have my glasses with me so I am unable to read this. So, here are some questions; 1: Are you sending the 4K signal thru the AVR? 2: If you bypass the AVR does it work?
Here are the reasons that I ask, it has been shared with me that the Samsung 4K BD player may only support a single HDCP 2.2 Key, if this correct you are done as the AVR also pulls a Key.
Please call me.

4K 18gbps through HDMI keystones?? I'd be shocked if this works properly. Those can't possibly be 2.0a compliant

Brent, I was sending 4K through the AVR, but with error messages. It works when the AVR is bypassed.

It worked with no errors, and the on screen TV messages still reads, "3840X2160/24PHDMI UHD COLOR UHD". This 10 meter cable is going behind an expensive fireplace with a lot of trim + drywall. If the HDMI connector is damaged on the 10 meter cable, I have a lot of explaining to do. I'm only using one keystone on the source end. The display end uses the HDM-GA1.
