I finally received the last piece of my uhd puzzle today. The Samsung UBD-K8500 4K Bluray player. It is connected, via [email protected] HDMI cables to a Yamaha RXA1050, and a Samsung UN65JS9000. Yes...all firmware is up to date. Within a few minutes of startup, I get 2 messages from the blu ray player:
1)"For optimal picture quality, connect your 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player to a Television that supports 4K Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range."
2) "The content will be played in HD because the display or the HDMI input port does not support HDCP 2.2. Change the display or HDMI input port and try again."
If I bypass the Yamaha receiver, I do not get either error message.

Too late to call Yamaha. I scanned the owners manual with a search of "HDCP" issues. Nothing found relevant to the issue.

Samsung TV port is listed "MHL". That is what I was told to use by Samsung last year. (That port seems to work fine when AVR is bypassed.)

What am I missing?

Just listened to an htguys podcast about this, disconnect all other sources from rcvr and or display. Apparently any 1.4 devs in the chain throw a flag. Crap...

All Snap hdmi cables are 1.4. I use proflex and are hdcp 2.2 and work great! Get new cables

Also, FYI not all inputs on the Receiver or TV support 4k (AND are HDMI 2.0 HDCP 2.2 compliant) so make sure you plug the components into the right inputs (I've fixed a few other guys installs and have heard of many more in the field that this resolved the issues).

It's also possible that the Yamaha doesn't have a compatible profile for the new 4k Ultra HD blu-ray player yet...or isn't passing HDR or deep color or something like that...but also as mentioned could be a cabling issue (especially if you have any active/redmere cables or ultra thin cables in the system)

Are the cables Active (Redmere) or Passive?
If they are Active they roll off at 10 G (Hard) and will NOT support anything higher than 4K/60, 4:2:0. This means NO HDR . We have also seen issues with Active cables and some of the new HDCP registries.

The [email protected] cable is being used when the Yamaha AVR is bypassed. I get no error messages then. I don't suspect the cable yet.

Brett,
Cables are passive and less than 10' in length.
