One of my clients had the honor of buying the first Pioneer PDP in the area. His cost was 19K, and I made 5K on the sale. Still working and looking pretty good as well.

Man, those were the days.. :-)

We were wiring a huge house right when the 50" pioneer was a hot item. This house had like 8 fireplaces all built with boxes for the plasmas to go above them. When the house was trimmed out and it was time to pull the trigger the client only bought 1. I remember him saying "$20k is way too much to spend on a TV, besides...these things will be $3000 in a year". The reason i will never forget about that is because he was standing on a $12000 zebra skin rug that they put under the chess table in the living room.

When I ordered that first one in, it went into a spec house that was part of our local Showcase of Homes, so I had no idea if it would sell or not, and I was seriously on edge.

During the two weeks of the show I sold 9 more, and got 8 really nice jobs.

It was a VERY good year...

Oldest TV in the house (but in storage) is a 1985 Sony 13" kitchen TV. Stereo decoder & speakers, RCA composite A/V input, RCA audio pre-out, on-screen display, full-range cable & antenna tuners built-in, full remote control, and even supports the same discrete power and input commands in use today. Brilliant piece of engineering for the time. Also cost $800 back then.

My primary TV is a Pioneer PRO-150, which is no spring chicken any more. Probably the oldest in-use TV is a 23" Sony kitchen LCD... 2005 era. Can't even buy them this small any longer. Thankfully, it has HDMI and properly functional HDCP.

Only one TV in my house. 4 year old Panny 50 inch Plasma. I had 3 TV's at one point back in the days of CRT but only the main one ever got used so they never got replaced when they died.

1- 50" Elite- MBR (actually bought it from Electronic Stockroom for $3000 about 10 or so years ago), 1-42" Pioneer Elite (just bought it in November on Craigslist- $200.00), 1- Pioneer 50" Kuro in the Den (customer hand me down), 1 58" Panasonic in the back Game Room (customer hand me down) and a 1-42" Pioneer just because I could get it for $150 on Craigslist). It's going in my son's old room, now my wife's Office. Man they are pretty warm when you walk by them but still have great pics!!
I'm damn sure my electric bill would go down a bit if I where to replace all my plasmas!!

It's funny how the times have changed.

I used to replace EVERY TV in the house EVERY year, since the house was also used as a secondary showroom.

After a few years of that, it became obvious that I was just selling a lot of TV's, speakers, and audio gear at discount pricing.

In the main showroom, the main pieces were never in use more than 6 months, and that too became a bit of a hassle.

Seemed like "my" job was a never ending job that didn't pay very well... LOL

I don't have anything particularly old, but unless it catches fire my Panasonic ST60 will still be around 10+ years from now. I am so glad I picked it up when I did a few years ago.

I really want to find one of the last generation Sony XBRs before they went to "HD". I had a 29" XBR for years. It was a customer haul off from my days at Ultimate Electronics. It was awesome! My first TV, in fact. I gave it away dumbly. Now I wish I had it....for those nostalgic video game nights with the atari, NES, etc.

7 or 8 yr old Runco 50" Plasma. Only TV in the house.

My oldest would a 9-10 year old 50" Runco plasma or a Pioneer Elite 50".

Both are currently retired and stored. Oldest TV I have in service is a 5-6 year old Samsung LCD that I got as a freebie that was suffering from toxic capacitor syndrome.

The rest of them are under 5 years old and I actually paid money for them. At one point I had almost no electronics in my house that I paid for.

I sold every last television that I had before I moved to Indy. I made the decision that I was not about to waste money on moving and storing any technology and furniture items that I was not keeping long term, and TVs were at the top of that list.

I will be starting from scratch with all new modern displays when I get the new place set up here in the next few weeks.
