I currently have a DirecTV HR23-700 and am considering installing the new HR54 Genie, which the CSR at DirecTV told me will play the saved content from the HR23. Has anyone tried this? Or, would a legacy switch allow me to continue to use the old equipment? Thank you for any information/advice.

not sure what you are asking. what do you have now? with proper deca and or ethernet connection almost any h/hr receiver can stream video from a genie.

do you have a swm system?

short answer is yes. if you dont want to get ethernet involved, get a deca adapter and you will be in business.

Yes, I believe I have a swm system. CSR told me I could not access saved programs on the HR44, but I can from the new HR54. I'll try it and see. Thank you!

You will be able to access the stored data thats on old dvr from the Genie. But you will not be able to see the stored data on the Genie thru the old DVR. At least thats what I have found.

I have a Genie (HR44) with 2 clients and a HR24 in my theater room. The HR24 can watch anything I have recorded on my Genie and the Genie can watch anything I have recorded on my HR24.

Should be the same for the HR23.
