i remember reading that Cox Cable had "licensed" the X1 system from Comcast. Today we encountered our first Cox X1 system (under the Contour name) in San Diego.

User interface is pretty, but the remote is a total PIA. Client boxes are HDMI only, and even better..... It seems they don't receive ir signals.

A simple two hour TV swap has turned into a six hour apt just trying to get remotes to work.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Why? If it doesn't receive IR, what is the magical workaround? Way to leave us hanging lol

How I'd handle it at the end of those 2 planned for hours: "Here's your (insert brand of control system) remote...and here is your cable box remote; let us know when you get a Motorola or Scientifc Atlanta box and we will come back out and re-program for you".

A second client box in the house accepted ir. First one was just a dud.

Part of this business is figuring out new stuff so that we can provide better overall service for our customers. Giving up and throwing it back in the customer's lap is always an option... I don't lo,e to give up.

Troubleshooting 101. Be sure you're accurately describing the problem:

We all do this. We find one bad item and it never occurs to us it might be, well, one bad item!

Comcast created the situation, too. We've been trained by Comcast used to think that their stuff is crap so thoroughly that when when one malfunctioned, it was easy to decide that all of them were bad. It's actually a bit surprising Tweety even tried the second unit!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
