There have been a lot of insults around here lately, and most people don't use their real names. Using an anonymous name can let people say things they might not say if they knew they were in public.

A news item ([Link: news10.com]) tells of a politician who pursued an anonymous commenter. All the way up to the Supreme Court, which declined to hear the case, courts agreed that such a commenter has no expectation that his real name won't be revealed in the pursuit of damages.

So now a politician who was indirectly accused of being a latent child molester knows the name of the person who pays for the account where he was accused. To win a suit he'd have to prove that the person paying for the account actually wrote the comment, and he'd have to prove that a comment like that isn't just par for the course of what kind of comments public people have to put up with.

But watch who you're calling what. It's possible for one of us here to sue, and for your identity to be publicly revealed.

Are YOU truely Ernie Gilman? The person who types on a computer behind this screen name, Ernie Gilman, do they use the same name?

So the same could be said in the courts. But it could also bring up an other law suit. The true Ernie Gilman can sue the person who is using his name to deflame him.

I was thinking about the mansslaighter case that has been brought up to Bruce/Katlyn Jenner. How is his/her named typed out on court documents? Are both on there just to cover legal asses? So some lawyer wouldn't say this or that and the case is dismissed on a simple name/sex change?

Sticks and stones sure. It is just words and most people get that. But the pen is mightier than the sword. Pussy keyboard warriors get tiresome. I find it hard to believe that those who carry on here would be such f-in a$$holes if they were in front of their victims. Some of what goes on here is straight up bullying and it's wrong. Some times I read a thread title and my first instinct is , oh great, here we go again.

People can be really brave on the phone, too. I used to take calls and people would be going off for one reason or another and making threats, but in person, a completely different story. Sometimes, they just need to vent.
