And yet you just made a comment. An interesting one, and it was really good that you joined in.
Thanks.
Don't be so freakin' judgmental -- you never know when something you find boring might actually turn out to be fun. Just add remotecentral folks and it will become a party unless people are curing each other out!

It took other people derailing it from your ramblings to make it interesting. And what you failed to grasp, my post about labeling something OT was mKing fun of your previous whining. Try keeping up, LD
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

So....

The "party line" was a phone line that was shared.

While you had you own number, it didn't just ring YOUR phone. If the call was to your number, it had a different ring than if it were to another person on the line.

Wife and I moved to NC in 1984, rented a house ($50.00 per month for a nice 3br 1bth in the country, which was 7 miles from the center of town), so this wasn't really all that long ago.

Anyway, we had moved here from Miami, and had our old answering machine, so we hooked it up, not knowing it would work correctly on a party line.

We come home one afternoon to find there's a message on the machine.

Answering machine had picked up and recorded a conversation between two old men.

The one old guy was positive his friend "Got a woman over there", and the other was "What you talkin' bout?".

I wish I still had the tape from it, as it was hilarious.
