A recent set of threads brought my attention to an article describing how the wonderful open attitudes and lifestyles one can experience in Seattle are, basically, over. And it's Amazon's fault.

The article is "How Amazon Swallowed Seattle," and it's a bit of a sad read. It's at [Link: gawker.com].

edited title per Fins' suggestion.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie, did you write that article? Jeez, I couldn't bare to read more than the first 5-6 paragraphs. Whoever wrote that was getting paid by the word. It droned on and on, before the feeble attempt to make its point.

I'm not disagreeing with the message.... actually have no idea, as I'm not familiar with the city that much....but I could have edited that article down and captured the message in about 3-4 paragraphs, instead of the novella the author was attempting to write.

Why wasn't this labeled OT so I would have known to not waste my time?

I did the same thing. I read the top half and got tired of it. I used to live in a neighborhood in Chicago that had a great vibe. Bars, artists, lofts etc. 10 years later the landscape changed, the rent tripled and the vibe is gone. Want to know what else is gone with it?

Drug dealers
Gang members
Drug addicts
Robberies
Assaults

Now i can go have breakfast there and not have to worry about getting mugged in the parking lot. I don't have any interest in living in Wicker Park anymore. I don't miss the lack of parking or the building rattling till 4AM because of the club on the first floor.

I think a lot of the "man things sure have changed" come from people romanticizing the past. The neighborhood never had a vibe. Me at 20 years old had the vibe.

Got it, Fins. This sounds lame, but I really meant to do that.

Well......pot has been legal their for awhile......

From my early years experience, weed had me rambling on over every minuscule detail of everything important(to me anyway!).

Perhaps Tolerable at a party.

Not really acceptable at work.

This happens many times in gentrified areas; it's the nature of the beast. The same has occurred here in downtown Vegas due to Uncle Tony moving Zappos and his cult to downtown. If you don't know what Zappos is and questioning my making note of it, they are an Amazon company. To Mac's point though, it is safer and more tolerable if you can afford it AND put up with the douches, hipsters and chubby chicks wearing mom-cut shorts who think they are changing the world.

Yabbut, if the area has people who tend to act in any particular ways, woudn't that be considered its vibe? Now that the dealers, gang members, etc are gone, it has a new vibe. Raised rent makes that crap move pretty quickly and more property owners need to pay attention to that fact- their lack of interest in spending any money on their rental properties is killing a lot of places that should be habitable & safe.

Of course we've never experienced a drunk rambling and blathering on and on?

Not sure what this has to do with anything on this thread?

If you're insinuating that the author of the article was high when he wrote it, maybe. But maybe he was drunk? Or maybe he is just a long winded bore, like some people on this forum that probably don't use cannabis.

You could always move back to Kansas where most people here share similar narrow minded views.

I know some people in KS who don't come close to fitting that description.

We'll I know a few too and I can tell you first hand most Kansans are narrow minded. The whole state is stuck in the Stone Age
